U6 SSF Gala Day

This years Gala Day was held at Rouse Hills Rams home ground at Rouse Hill. It was a great day complimented by the brilliant weather. It was a well-oiled operation with the Granville Association doing an excellent job at ensuring the schedule was followed.

After arriving and finding a parking spot as the car parks were full, we set up camp near field 14 as 4 out of 5 games were to be played at this field. We had an addition to the team from Merrylands as being a small team (5 players – 1 unable to attend), we welcomed the additional player fielding 4 with 1 on the bench.

The 1st game started at 9:40am followed by a game every 1hr and 20mins this giving the team 45mins between games to rest. The last game was played at 3:00pm. The team played well considering that this was their first year of playing soccer. Holroyd U6 won 3 games, drew 1, and lost 1.

The emphasis of the Gala day was on participation for pleasure and winning was part of the fun.  The team met players from Sydney FC and took photos. At the end of the day a presentation of a medallion and show bag was given to each participant.

As the coach of the U6, I must say that I thoroughly ended the experience of training and guiding the team during the season and to finish off with the Gala Day was thoroughly enjoyed as the players gave a tremendous effort and showed great team spirit. I shall look forward to doing the same next season.

A big thank you goes out to the parents who persisted with the training and early Saturday games.  Holroyd U6 Gala Day team; Josiah Palu, Lukeman Elbadar, Sahil Arya, Dominic Horley and Javish Nadan.

Sat 21st July:
U6 v Wenty Waratah D
U7 v Greystanes B
U10 div 3 v Pendle Hill Won 3-0
U15 div 2 v Rouse Hill Won 3-2
This was sent to our club email address from a parent from the U15/2 Castle Hill United team:
"I just wanted to pass on congratulations to your U15/2 team for their win on Saturday v Rouse Hill.
I am the parent of an U15/2 player at Castle Hill United (and also previous committee member) and we have played your U15/2 team twice this season. Both games resulted in wins to CHU, but our parents and our boys were so very impressed by your team’s spirit, morale and attitude on both occasions and we admire their resilience in turning up each week to play in what must be a very frustrating season for them. We normally call such a tough season “character-building” but your boys appear to have that in spades already!
I was speaking to some parents from Castle Hill Rockets 15/2 team on Saturday and they also commented on what a fantastic group of boys you have in that team. You should be justifiably proud of them as they are great ambassadors for your community.
I was absolutely delighted to see them post a win on Saturday and I’m sure I speak on behalf of quite a few parents and U15 boys here in the Hills in saying we wish your boys much success in their future soccer."

U16 div 2 v Wenty Uniting Loss 3-1
U17 div 1 v Guildford County Loss 3-1
O35 div 5 v Auburn FC Won 3-0
All Age Men div 7 v Rydalmere Loss 7-0
All Age Men div 6 v Winston Hills White Loss 6-2

Sun 22nd July:
U16G div 2 v Merrylands SFC Draw 0-0
The girls played a fantastic game full of enthusiasm which resulted in a nil all draw
against Merrylands. The team is suffering from a few injuries but managed to struggle
through the game. On the previous Monday evening, the team had an amazing win against
Castle Hill United with a score of 10-nil. Again due to injuries the girls played short but
lifted themselves to keep on scoring and defending brilliantly. Although Castle Hill are at
the bottom of the ladder and our team is currently leading it was still an excellent effort
to keep the opposition to nil for both of these games. Hopefully this coming Sunday we will
be back to our full strength team. Thanking all the parents and supporters of this group of
girls - you are superb supporters and all the girls thrive on this backup.

All Age Ladies div 4 v Rouse Hill Loss 4-2
All Age Ladies div 3 v Kellyville Won 1-0

Round 8 catch up games

Played Wed 11th July:
All Age Ladies div 3 v Greystanes Won 1-0
Greys undefeated before this game and we took the game right to them. We dominated all over the park and barely gave Greys a shot on goal. We had 2 shots 1st half both off the crossbar - Kriscia with a header then Tanesha with a long range effort - score 0-0 at the break. 2nd half was more of the same and we had a couple of counter-attacks from sweetly timed through balls. Great effort defensively tightly marking their players to blunt the Greys attack. The break-through finally came 6 minutes before full time with Tanesha running onto a through ball and slotting it into the corner to start much elation from all the Holroyd players and spectators. Good to see such a large contingent of Holroyd supporters out for this night game.

Sun 15th July:

All Age Ladies div 4 v Ermington Won 4-2
All Age Ladies div 3 v Castle Hill RSL Won 1-0
A bit of a scrappy game but we did enough to get the win. We won lots of corners but could have and should have pressed harder when in front of goals. Numerous half-chances at their goal which we failed to capitalise on, we need to convert many more of these half-chances. We are capable of beating any team in this comp and winning it, but we need the hunger when we play. 38th minute after corner number 50 (or so it felt like) the corner was taken low and along the goal line, ball trapped by Ness who turned around her player and chipped her shot from a tight angle and into the far top corner over the keepers head.

Amy kicks out from goals after another safe pick up
Typical of this game, lots of Holroyd players trying to win the ball

2nd half we pressed again and had several good chances with Kriscia shooting wide and Tammy a couple of good runs onto through balls as well as a header from a cross but alas nothing could find the target, and their keeper was quickly out to gather the ball. Last 10 minutes we stopped and let CHRSL attack us and with a better striker they could have got the equaliser. Remember to play the full 90 minutes and it ain't over until the final whistle. When we are winning the game don't stop and give them a chance to get back into it. Otherwise a good win - roll on AAL/3s!

All Age Men div 7 v Winston Hills Red Loss 3-2
Started with 10 men and went down 2-0 fairly quickly. Our 11th player arrived and we were 3-0 down at the break. Determined play 2nd half, we held shape well and pressed hard, forcing errors and an own goal. This was followed by some neat play between Fridge and Greks with Fridge hitting a superb strike low and hard into the corner. A good game and an excellent 2nd half against a good bunch of blokes.

Visit by Matildas player Catherine Cannuli

Holroyd Rangers welcomed a visit by Matilda’s player Catherine Cannuli to Guildford West Sportsground on Thursday evening 28th June. Catherine chatted with our coaches and club officials before running the training session for our U10s team.

A series of warm up routines was followed by a variety of fun drills to develop individual ball skills as well as improve teamwork. It was noted that our U10s team were very attentive for the entire training session and were heard later saying how much fun they had. All our U10 players thanked Catherine for her visit and a group photo was taken to finish off. Catherine is a relative of one of the players in our U10s team.

Catherine has just completed a training camp with the Matildas squad (Australian womens soccer team) which concluded with 2 international friendly games against New Zealand – the results of which were a 1-1 draw followed a few days later by a 2-0 win to Australia.

Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club says thanks to Catherine for volunteering her time and visiting our club and she is welcome back at any time. We wish Catherine lots of luck with her international career and also in the upcoming W-League season.
