Holroyd Rangers Danish connection

Tasmania has its Danish connection with Mary Donaldson becoming Crown Princess of Denmark. Also Grand finalists Sydney FC W-league team includes two Danish players: Julie Rydahl Bukh who is a Danish football midfielder. She currently plays for Sydney FC and the Danish national team, and Cathrine Paaske Sørensen is a Danish football midfielder. She currently plays for Sydney FC and the Danish national team.

Holroyd Rangers now has its own Danish connection. During summer, coach Rob Hopper has been running summer soccer training on Thursday evenings. We’ve had a good group of players joining in and Rob has been running a very enjoyable and worthwhile session for all the players.

In October a keen soccer playing family from Denmark who were travelling to Australia to live for 3 months discovered our Holroyd Rangers blog and inquired about playing soccer with us. With no competition happening for the time they would be here, we invited them to join us at the Thursday night soccer training. Dad Henning, and his three daughters Emma, Asta & Iris came down and joined in each Thursday night. Their enthusiasm and passion for the game have added to the enjoyment of these sessions. A few weeks ago we presented them with certificates making them honorary members of Holroyd Rangers. They return to Denmark in the New Year and we wish them all the best for their 2010 soccer season with their own teams near Copenhagen. The girls play for Lystrup IF, and Hennings' club is "FC Hamid" for indoor soccer in the winter and FC Boreas for summer soccer. Should they happen to visit Australia again we would look forward to have them participate in any of our training sessions or competitions.

Sun 23rd Aug:

U14G div 1 v Castle Hill United Loss 4-0
U16G div 2 v Castle Hill RSL Won 1-0
A great win to round off a great season. We scored early when Sheri
took advantage of some hesitation by the RSL backs & goalie to pounce on
the loose ball, stealing it virtually out of the hands of their keeper &
tucking her shot neatly into the corner of the net. This brings Sheri's
tally of goals for the season to 15, easily winning our golden boot
award (Sarah P is next with 7). It was a warm day & with just 1 sub our
girls had to pace themselves. We controlled the game all the way, Megan
in goals rarely having to get involved thanks to great defending &
midfield play. Our backline of Cassie, Larissa, Chantelle, Rochelle &
Shayley were able to push forward at times to assist in the midfield.
Adriana, Kacey, Renea & Emily played in the mids & tackled & won the
ball most times, never giving RSL any time on the ball. Sheri & Sarah P
up front had a few chances in front of goal but could not grab a 2nd one
for us. When we spread out & played our passing game we looked
absolutely unstoppable. Girls - it has been my sincere pleasure to have
coached this team this year & I have enjoyed every moment of it. I hope
to see you all again next year. Thanks to Tracey for all your help.

All Age Ladies div 4 v Lidcombe Waratah Won 2-0
A hot afternoon & no subs but our ladies played out of their skins.
Totally in control of the game all the way however we were unable to
find the net in the 1st half. Our goalies (Amy 1st & Lisa 2nd) rarely
had to get involved, but when they did they were unbeatable. Amy had
our best chance to score early 2nd half with a 1-on-1 with their keeper
& struck it really well but it just went over the bar. Some nice runs
deep down the right hand side caused havoc for Lidcombe when the cross
was whipped in but we couldn't quite convert the finish. It took a
couple of corners about 5 minutes apart to grab our 2 goals. The 1st
was deep along the goal line & appeared to be an own goal (does anyone
want to claim it?). The 2nd was crossed closer to the penalty spot &
Nessa neatly whipped her shot towards the back post leaving their keeper
sprawled in the dust after the ball flashed past her outstretched right
hand. Both Nicole & Mel created several nice runs towards goal. Lauren
& Crystal both played really well as back wings, both having some good
runs forward with the ball when given the chance. All in all an
excellent game to watch & a great finish to the season. (Report by

Sat 15th Aug:
U6 Green v Merrylands SFC U6 B Won 4-3

The Greens played really well today, with the score demonstrating exactly how hard our Rangers fought. With Sam sidelined with the chicken pox, and Ben still overseas, it was great to see so many of the U6 Blacks staying back to help out (and a big thanks to their parents!). The MSFC team came out fast, scoring quickly in the first half, but our Rangers, most of whom were tired from the first game, kept their heads up and played hard, resulting in our following goal. The score fluctuated one for one for most of the game, with the Rangers managing to secure our final winning goal off a great pass by Jonah which Costa ran on to and the crowd cheered as he got nothing but net! Andre proved invaluable to the Greens as he hunted down the ball and booted it up the field. Jonah is shaping into an amazing defensive player, and managed to save several attacks by the Merrylands team with skill and ease. His passing and listening has improved so much over the season which is pleasing to see. Costa, Rosilenn and Lemour played another great game, really harnessing that Rangers game ethic to keep trying and never give up, despite the fatigue they felt from playing both games.

Overall, the sixes have been an absolute delight to coach and the skills they demonstrated today, as well the scores we proudly relay to you, are evidence that this cohort of soccer superstars are talented and fun, and definitely a team to watch in the future.

U6 Black v Merrylands SFC U6 E Won 4-2

A great game to watch, with our Rangers going in for numerous tackles and winning the ball. Lots of chances on the Merrylands goal (which missed by a whisker!) made the length this group has improved by since the start of the season obvious to all who watched. The birthday boy, Jamie, had some amazing birthday kick ins which were both powerful and accurate- going straight to our players feet. Costa Pele used his speed and agility to make numerous break throughs, running down the line and always thinking about his position and how he can help our team mates. Rosilenn had two big tackles this game, and managed to get the ball off the MSC boys (quite a feat, considering their size) kicking it away from our goal. Lemour Maradonna showcased the great drag backs and footwork skills he has been working on at training which make him a player to watch. Andre, coming early for his game, also had a run on and once again impressed the audience with the power of his superb left foot. Overall, the team played amazingly, and demonstrated all the skills they have learnt over the season so well that their coaches could do nothing but beam with pride.

U7 v Wenty Waratah U7 E
U8 Purple v Wenty Waratah Won 3-0
U9 div 3 v Dundas Loss 3-0
U12 div 3 v Castle Hill United Loss 3-1
U13 div 4 v Pendle Hill Loss 3-1

After 2 of the Round Robin rounds all 4 teams were, amazingly, tied up on 3 points with a loss and win each making this a sudden death match up. And so for this year it is once again close and yet so far. It has always been close with Pendle and today was no exception. They won the first half by scoring 3 unanswered goals but, with a single goal to us, we won the second half.
Unfortunately it is the total game score that counts...... 1-3. Bugger!!

It was a very entertaining game. And not just on the field. The supporters were very vocal offering a number of well considered observations and much helpful advice. Some applying to players and some seemingly said in introspection. Many of comments were sufficiently “worldly” that they could easily be applied to other “life situations”. It was probably a good thing that some of them went unheard or unheeded.

In the context of our season I would suggest that we simply peaked a little too early with some our most dominating games played a few weeks back. During that period we could have beaten any team. But not today.... Such is life.

And so we wave a fond farewell to the 09 season and we look to next year.

Thanks for the fun and excitement everyone. Have a good break and come back firing for the winter of 2010.

U14 div 4 v Guildford County Loss 5-0
U18 div 1 v St Michaels Loss 8-2
O35 div 6 v Dundas Loss 5-3
The atmosphere was electric. In what should have been a relaxed final dead rubber match the Holroyd lads put on a great show for the spectators. In the first 2 minutes of the match a nice series of passes saw Ray score the first goal of the match. The spectators roared and started to sit up and really take notice. Then Nashy who pretty much had the Melon award sewn up then went and selflessly headed a ball to Ace who neatly headed it into goals. Now the award had to be shared even though Nashy insisted he should have got a ½ point for the header assist. To the untrained eye of the spectator Ace seemed to be channelling some English premier league player with some very casual looking but very effective back heel passes. Alas we were informed that what looked very cool was because Ace had an injury and couldn’t run. Boys, don’t share this sort of info – you really need to keep up the mystique. Bill went into every tackle hard, winning the ball most times, but sometimes coming out of them limping. But hey so was the other guy so it was a win win situation all round. Younes then scored a brillant goal from long range. Holroyd up 3-2 at the break. Ray was also going in hard to win the ball with at least one occasion getting sandwiched between two of the opposition players and coping plenty of pushes and elbows. Suddenly, drama a stretch towards the ball and Ray came off the field limping and couldn’t go back on. The boys now had no reserves. By this stage Normie (on his last week of suspension) was marching up and down the field like Alec Ferguson, not saying much but the tension showing on his face. Next in the injury toll was Nashy who having torn his groin muscle the week before was okay for a while until he had to stretch out for a ball and then he was limping too. Dundas started to turn around the game exploiting our rising injury toll and scored a couple of goals to bring them ahead 4-3. Out of the blue or so it seemed Grant who had been having a consistent good game in the midfield was yellow carded. Confusion swirled as the ref said it was for jumping up in front of the opposition player who was throwing in. Ace was incredulous “Is that a rule, ref” he asked and Grant was quietly fuming, but copped the card and continued to play. Tension was rising as the boys could see the game slipping away from them as they dealt with the outcome of some bad calls. Shortly after Grant defending against a through ball runner slide tackled and earnt his second yellow, making it an automatic red for him. So now the boys were down to 10 with a number of them limping around the field. A lot of pressure was on Brad and Hopwood in defence and they did extremely well with Brad cutting off numerous attempts. Hopwood was defending Sideshow Bob and the spectators screamed “Go Hopwood” as he sped down the field nearly copping a mouthful of Sideshow Bob’s hair and time and again cut him off. Eddie had been hoping to steal the Melon award but didn't get any opportunites as he now had his work cut out for him working the midfield. Clive had a couple of chances when he went screaming down the field with a through ball but was just cut off at the last moment. Andrew too had a few chances but put them wide. The boys were definitely slowing down and this meant more one-on-ones for Musky. You could tell his attitude was “Bring it on”. One particular time Musky was way out of the box, one on one with their striker, it looked a certain goal only for the striker to hit it wide. Just like a cat with a mouse Musky often toyed with their strikers and that tactic certainly worked on most occasions. Musky then went on to pull off some brilliant saves. The game ended with a 5-3 win to Dundas. The boys deserved better with their great passing, but it was not to be.

Many of us later went back to Norm and Jen’s place to enjoy a great barbie and good chat. Hopwood showed some photos and video which caused great hilarity as each player got bagged out. Some footage from last years team meant that the bagging was not limited to this years. So Greg if you are reading this you were bagged too. (Nice to be still included). Have a good off season guys.

Senior 3 v St Josephs Game deferred to Sat 22nd Aug
Senior 4 v Wenty Waratah Loss 2-1

Sun 16th Aug:
U14G div 1 v Castle Hill United Won 3-2
U16G div 2 v Lidcombe Waratah Loss 3-0
Early attacks at Lidcombe's goal almost came off with several good strikes & a
couple of good corners. An injury to their keeper forces her off & their sub goes in
goals. The play swings back to our end & Lidcombe worked a good goal to take the lead.
Lidcombe with their tails up soon grab another. 2-0 down at the half. Coaches
instructions: press forward & take your shots & play to win as our season is on the
line. The girls did exactly that & we definitely had many more shots on goal than
Lidcombe in the 2nd half. Their sub goalie proved her worth & saved several excellent
shots that our girls took - Sheri, Renea & Emily all with good attempts on goal. A
plethora of injuries as both Larissa & Megan took a ball to the face, DJ & Emily
both rolled ankles (with DJ unable to continue), & Chantelle with a stretched hamstring.
Sarah R tackled superbly in the middle, Kacey won the loose ball well in the mids, &
Shayley & Rochelle pushed forward from the backs to add punch in the midfield. Adriana
got into good positions out wide but did not get enough passes fed to her. Cassie at right
back was superb, tackling & winning every ball & playing it forward into attack,
earning her the Player of the Match award. 1 game to go girls, let's finish the season
with a win.

AAL div 4 v Wenty Waratah Won 1-0
A frustrating game to watch with our 11 v Wenty's 8, we should have run in several
goals. The game was shortened to 2 x 30min halves due to the late start & with the very
warm day nobody complained. We had many many attempts on goal that were either just wide or
neatly gathered by their keeper. Early corners were well taken & nearly resulted in
goals but the final finish was off. To their credit our ladies kept battling hard, winning
tackles & passing well. It was not until halfway through the 2nd half that Nic P hit a
lovely strike from a tight angle along the ground sneaking it between the near post &
the keeper. Against a tall keeper low & hard is the place to hit your shots. Well done
on a good win ladies. Lets get another next Sunday to finish the season off in style.

Round Robin week 1:
U14G div 1 v Baulkham Hills Loss 4-0
U16G div 2 v Kellyville Loss 3-1
Coaches ask their players to give their best performance in any given
game. Today the girls did just that and I am extremely proud of their
efforts. Kellyville with 2 shots off the bar 1st half but we held them
to 0-0 at half-time. Early 2nd half they scored off a scramble in front
of goals after a corner. Then they get a penalty but fortunately the
shot goes wide. Alas they then score a 2nd goal from general play soon
after. To their credit our girls did not give up and in fact hit back
on the counter attack via Sheri to quickly get a goal back. Then with
10 minutes left Shayley goes down injured and the game is stopped for a
lengthy period. Fortunately Shayley is okay but could not take any
further part in this game. We used this break to regroup and to plan
our push forward to grab another goal. We almost pulled it off with a
couple of good attempts on goal. However when you push up you leave
gaps at the back and Kellyville used that to grab a late goal. Player
of the match Chantelle for excellent defensive marking on their best
striker and for general dogged defending. An excellent game from all
players.
AAL div 4 v Dundas Loss 3-1
The first of the round robin games for our ladies and they started off
well. An early shot from Ness off the left side post that had the
keeper beaten. We scored soon after this from a series of nice passes
leading up to a great strike. Alas we allowed Dundas to equalise almost
immediately so it was 1-1 at the break. 2nd half the ladies did not
appear to be in the game at all and Dundas had all the play.
Consequently they grabbed 2 2nd half goals and the win. A great game
from Nicole K anticipating and attacking the ball well. (Report by John)

Who would have thought that after our inauspicious start this season (4
losses in 5 games) we would have a win under our belts after the first
of the "topside" round robin matches. The improvement in the team since
round 6 has been exceptional with only 1 loss. If there was "book" to
made on this competition I know where I would have my money. In this
week's match we went to the break 2-0 up after a busy, if untidy, 1st
half. Ryan, our powerhouse scoring machine, put both of goals away with
fine build up from the rest of the team. In the 2nd half St Joeys came
out firing & after consistent pressure slipped one past Alex. About 10
minutes from the end St Joeys scored again in a congested attack that
pushed the ball low & just inside the right post. It is now 2-2 with
only a few minutes remaining. (I would now like to ask our boys to
please consider the voice boxes, hearts, bladders & digestive systems of
their supporters when they let the game get this tight.) To our relief
it was again Ryan that, after a 40 metres foray through opposition
defenders, lofted the ball over the keepers head from about 30 meters
out. He had seen the Joey's number one move too far off his line &
struck the ball with enough power & precision to clear the keepers
hands, dip below the cross bar & find the back of the net. Ryan was our
Man-of-the-Match, not only for scoring, but a sterling effort all game.
He was not alone with sterling efforts. Andrew O was very strong
through the middle & assisted in at least one of the goals. Thomas has
lifted to new level of aggression making space several times to take
serious shots. Scott was, as ever, busy & effective at the back. It
has been said before but in these reports I could mention specific
actions & passages of play by any & all of our players that have
contributed significantly to our successes. Well done team.

I have been doing some statistics on the players during the season can
with much pride state that all players have shone many times during the
season, often at critical times in one match or another. Each player has
shown a particular characteristic that marks his style & makes a
difference for our team. Andrew B for his tenacity. Aiden has shown
determination &, at times, a disturbing lack of fear. Matty of the big
left boot & impish grin. Alex is our stalwart goal guardian. Novvie
the ever committed defender, knowing the critical importance of his
efforts, never gives in. Nathan is a thinker that reads the play so
well he very regularly places himself in scoring positions. Fadi an
all-rounder can make mischief anywhere on the field. Keyrolous
(Carlos), making the most of unlikely chances, has scored a number for
the team. Mitchell the "invisible man" has had injuries that have kept
him off the field for most of the season & has taken some heavy hits in
the games he has played but he still gives his all. Andrew O is the
skilmeister with more finesse than he can use in one game can make plays
& score himself. Aaron, our rookie, is the grand improver. Tyler
having made some freaky scoring moves is a very creative winger. Thomas
is our skilful gentleman footballer. Ryan the goal scoring juggernaut
has scored more goals than all other players combined. Scott, his speed
& determination has saved us too many times to mention. For consistency
though Scott is our Player of the Rounds with Ryan a close second.
Congratulations boys!!!
U14 div 4 v Granville Waratah Draw 1-1
A very ordinary game from our boys who were extremely lucky to come away
from this one with a draw. GW came out wanting this more than us and it
showed. We were flat and did not hold our positions, not marking
players and letting GW run right through us. GW scored early and we
were lucky to score in the last minute of the 1st half from a counter
attack which Mark tucked neatly away. GW continued to play well 2nd
half and we picked up our game but only a little. We will have to do a
lot better in the next 2 rounds if we want a spot in the Grand Final.

U18 div 1 v Winston Hills White Loss 6-1
O45 div 1 v Greystanes Won by Forfeit
O35 div 6 v Parramatta City Loss 1-0

Senior 4 v PCYC Loss 1-0

Sun 2nd Aug (Ladies Round 10):
U14G div 1 v Baulkham Hills Loss 8-0
U16G div 2 v Winston Hills Won 3-0
An easy game for us to end the regular season. Some nice passages of
play and good passing were pleasing to watch. Shayley with her 1st goal
this season with a lofted shot that fooled their keeper. Sheri proved
that keeping pressure on their defenders and goalkeeper really pays off
and scored from 2 such occasions. Kacey and Renea controlled the middle
well, with Shayley, Rochelle and DJ strong at centre back and often
pushing forward to support our attacking play. Cassie and Larissa both
had good games as outside backs. Sarah R and Adriana both tackled and
passed well. Sarah P, Sheri and Emily were all quick at the front and
combined well on numerous runs towards goal. Megan had little to do in
goals but came off her line well when required. Renea was very strong
in the mids and took control of the play, earning Player of the Match.
We need to spread out more to use the whole of the field, keep
challenging for the ball, and making the early pass to our players.
Congratulations to all players on a terrific regular season, we have now
finished in 4th spot and go into the round robin finals series for a
chance to play in the grand final. The top 4 teams are all square now
and it comes down to how well we play in each of our next 3 games. I
know you will give it your best and do yourselves proud.

All Age Ladies div 4 v North Rocks Draw 1-1
We lost to this team 7-2 in round 1 & considering NR needed to win this
to make the top 4 we did a great job to get a draw. NR scored early &
regularly attacked our goal but Danni came off her line well to gather.
We equalised late in the half with a neat pass across goals & Sherrie
tucked her shot into the opposite corner completely wrong footing their
keeper. NR had the play early 2nd half but our defence stayed strong.
Late in the game we won a couple of corners & put their goalie under
real pressure. Niccy P came on 2nd half & made a real difference in
attack, almost snatching the winner for us. Everyone had a great game -
well done to all - a great game to watch. (Report by John)

An early goal to us from a corner then basic mistakes at the back
allowed GC to score 4 goals late in the half. If we make mistakes like
this against quality opposition they will punish us for them. Defenders
and mids must track the runs of the players they are marking. A tighter
2nd half kept both teams scoreless. We had at least 3 good chances to
score but could not find the back of the net, either the shot went over
or it was not struck well enough. We need to step up now for the
finals.

Despite most of the game spent in the oppositions half we could not
manage to convert any of our chances. CHRSL get 2 runs into our half
and get 2 shots on goal only to convert both of them - sometimes this
game can be so cruel. We controlled the midfield really well and
tackled superbly. Great defence from Larissa, Chantelle, Rochelle and
DJ. Shayley was superb alternating between stopper and centre mid.
Sarah R tackled and won the ball numerous times, and Natasha and Adriana
both supported well on the wings. Our forwards tried relentlessly but
could not break free and get off the killer shot we needed. We had many
many shots on goal only to have them blocked or saved by their keeper.
Megan made 2 great saves in goal for us, firstly running out to kick
clear then a 2nd time going to ground in front of their striker to block
the shot. Kacey tackled relentlessly in the mids and seemed to be
everywhere, earning the Player of the Match award. Girls - do not feel
bad about this loss - our commitment, effort and work rate was first
class.

All Age Ladies div 4 v Guildford County Won 1-0
A really exciting game by both teams, however I think our Holroyd girls wanted it more. We went out hard and had more than a few attempts at goals. We scored in the first half and GC came out harder in second half but we still kept the pressure up. I'm really proud of our girls today as the trapping, passing, tackling and defending were all spot on. The GC girls played hard today but also were great sports, so it was a very enjoyable game all round. Lauren was defending against one of their key strikers and she had one of her best games - she made a real nuisance of herself - never giving up, cutting off their angle and putting pressure on them, and then when she got the ball off them, taking a bit of time to place the ball in a good space forward. But every single player in our team gave it their all. Ladies take a bow for a great team effort against the 2nd on the table.

A solid win with 10 players against St Micks 11. Just 1-0 at the break then a strong 2nd half finish. Cameron on the right wing fired 2 nice crosses firstly to allow Scott to trap the ball, turn, and fire home. Cameron's 3rd run down the right into the box saw him taken out by their sweeper and after the ref pointed to the spot Cameron groggily staggered to take the penalty and smashed it home. Great game in defence from Bradley, and Scott and Ryan alternated at sweeper and striker to good effect, and Chris F and James made some nice runs and passes in the midfield. This win now puts us into 2nd spot on the table and we cannot miss out on a top 4 finish.

U18 div 1 v Winston Hills White Loss 6-3
O45 div 1 v Kellyville Loss 1-0
O35 div 6 v Rouse Hill Loss 3-0
After winning 6 in a row we have slumped and lost our last 3 games, taking us from 2nd spot back to 5th. Injuries have depleted our squad and the bye next week is very welcome. With 3 points for the bye then hopefully a win against St Micks in the last round we are still a chance to finish in the top 4.

Senior 3 v Castle Hill United Won 2-1
Senior 4 v North Rocks Won 5-0

Sun 12th July:
U14G div 1 v Winston Hills Loss 3-2
U16G div 2 v North Rocks Won 1-0
A frustrating game to watch with HR having most of the play, Megan touching the ball a few times all game, but we did get the win. We did not make the most of our opportunities and were far too bunched up and did not make enough passes to our players feet. Several through balls were neatly played for the forwards but they were unable to get off clear shots or to cross the ball for their team mates. Emily with a good chance 2nd half but it was struck straight to the keeper, and Kacey with a lofted shot from distance that tested their keeper, and Sarah P had to stretch to reach one ball and the shot flew too high. It was Natasha who grabbed our goal with a neat follow up shot that was well struck and well placed. Shayley played well at centre back and centre mid and Rochelle was solid in defence. Again it was our backs who played the best games with DJ, Larissa, Chantelle, and Cassie all playing very good games. Think about spreading out to utilise our speed advantage. Also when playing the ball from a wide position near goals cut it back rather than straight towards their keeper.

AAL div 4 v Kellyville Loss 4-1
The ladies played well but were outplayed by Kellyville in this match. Our defenders Nicole K, Di and Lauren had their work cut out for them and defended tirelessly Danni did a lot of good work in goals. Robyn moved well between assisting in defence to trapping balls in the midfield to send forward. Everyone played well but with the bare eleven we didn't have the flexibility we usually have to move players around to adjust to the other teams play.

AAL div 2 v North Rocks Draw 1-1
An entertaining game to watch flowing from one end to the other. Unlucky early when a shot from Jess struck the left hand post and deflected out. Soon after Jess ran on to a through ball and chipped it over the head of the onrushing keeper. The ball was trickling towards goal when our left-midfielder ran up and tucked it over the line to make sure. NR equalised soon after from a corner. HR with more chances 2nd half and again Jess struck the side netting with a very close attempt that had the keeper beaten. Excellent defensive games from Jackie and Gemma with Sandy and Lauren making some nice plays in the midfield. (Report by John)

Holroyd Rangers player winner of McDonalds Football Scholarship

Congratulations to Cameron Nash from the U14/4 's who was successful with his application for a McDonalds Scholarship for 2009.

Cameron had to write about his football achievements, how the scholarship would help his football development and how the funds would be used. His application was forwarded to GDSFA where with others from the Granville district it was forwarded to Football NSW for consideration. From all districts across NSW, Football NSW then selected 32 recipients for the scholarship. Only two from the Granville District were successful applicants - Cameron being one of those.
Cameron has already allocated some of the money from the $500 grant towards a Football NSW soccer camp in the first week of the school holidays.
See Football NSW for a list of the lucky recipients

It was a tough game with the play moving from end to end. After the best of
field position and the lead for 55 minutes we finished with a frustrating
1-1 draw. Ryan, without question our major striking force, hit the back of
the net yet again. Though scoring is essential it needs to be said that it
takes a lot to keep the ball away from our own goals and give the forwards
the chances. At the back Scott gave his usual amazing, acrobatic effort
while Novvie showed great commitment and skill in defence. Exhibiting some
pleasing new aggression today Fadi took the ball in the air a number of
times and depriving the opposition of time to react. Andrew B again put
himself in places where he could hustled the ball from the best of their
guys. Nathan is ever the games "thinker", reading or making the play and
putting quality passes onto the toes of team members. It was confounding
that Thomas didn't score today but regularly was shut down by the defence.
Matty covered a lot of ground, and rubbed himself on quite a bit of it,
while throwing himself into tackles and coverage plays. Using his abundant
skills in numerous runs Andrew O cut through their players, stealing the
ball and feeding it through with slick, selfless passes. He was our MOTM
today. Thanks to Tyler and Ryan for pulling on the keepers gloves. Our
enthusiastic rookie Aaron is all finding his place. An unlucky days guys but
well played.

Another good win for the team with 3-2 over St Joeys. With Scott running
miles and throwing himself into the challenges. He was our Man-of
-the-Match. However he was not alone with exceptional efforts. There are no
slackers in our team, everyone is making significant contributions. We ARE
working as a team. As Alex was sick Tyler took to the goals and did a great
job, in one instance taking a screamer out of the air in a congested goal
mouth from a well weighted cross. Again Ryan scored a double. In one
instance he took on the defence on his own, ploughing through and finishing
with power. Carlos also scored. He has a talent for appearing in the right
place at the right time to finish in style. Aiden had runs and some quality
touches both in defence and attack. It was terrific to see Mitchell back on
the field and played surprisingly well after such a long injury break. All
played well. Good job!

The whole team put in a superb effort in this game. Passing was good and lots of talk made sure that players knew what options they had. Initially it was difficult to score as Wenty seemed to have most of tbeir team in the goal box defending. In the second half we made better use of our midfielders to create some space and this helped in the goal scoring department. We could have made better use of our chances if we had made sure that someone was running into the farpost area when in the goalbox. That is something we need to continue to work on. But truly the best team effort so far this season which contributed to goals by Vanessa, Nicky Potts and Lisa.

Sun 28th June:
U14G div 1 v Castle Hill United Draw 0-0
U16G div 2 v Kellyville Loss 6-0
Not much to be said about this game other than we did everything wrong.
Players not marking up, out of position, not attacking & winning the
loose ball, & not adjusting to KV's long throw-ins. That being said,
Rochelle played well in the backs & then a good game in goals 2nd half
to win player of the match. Larissa also tried hard & made some nice
clearance kicks & headers. Big effort needed at training & more
focus during the games.

AAL div 4 v Pendle Hill Black Won 5-1
Pendle Hill Blk upped the pressure and made us work hard for every goal in this rematch. They had a couple of players at front who were quite dangerous when they got to the ball. With a short field it put a lot of pressure on our backs and midfield who took up the challenge and ran their butts off. Vanessa was rewarded a few times with goals after some great chasing and footwork. Kristens corners were impressive. At one point she took a corner, which Vanessa trapped and passed back to Kristin who then curled a marvellous shot high towards the goals. The pendo goalie got her hands to it but fumbled it and it just dropped behind the line and bounced back out again. Just to make sure Lisa kicked it back in but it was clearly Kristens goal. When we were 2 nil up they managed to make the most of a good through ball and got around our defenders to score a goal. Mel had a few good chances but couldn't convert. Don't worry Mel , you will eventually be rewarded with a goal for all you hardwork on the field. We could see the danger from their forwards and we enlisted Nicole P to help out Tammy, Nicole K and Lauren in the backline as well. Between the four of them and our midfield, Pendo was not allowed to score another goal. Before the first half finished a sweet toepunt from distance from Amy gave us the third goal (Her first I believe after all her stints in goals.)
We still were not out of danger as Pendo kept the pressure up in the second half and the backs had their work cut out for them. A high goal by Pendo perfectly aimed to go just under the bar would have changed the face of the game but Danni made sure of it with a huge leap and caught the ball cleanly. Danni has been a key factor in many of our close matches where her saves have made the diference. After that, some great teamwork gave us another two goals. Congrtulations to Vanessa for her hat trick. Keep up the good work girls. Thanks to Todd for standing in for Dennis and organising the gameplan, positioning and subbing so well.

Round 9 match results

Sat 13th June:
U6 Green v Wenty Waratah U6 H Won 14-0
The Greens played an excellent game today: tackling hard and without
hesitation which is fantastic to see. Lemour and Sam stayed to help
their teammates out and were both rewarded with a hat-trick each in the
first half, whilst Andre scored 5 goals throughout his time on the
field. Ben has improved a lot, scoring 3 goals himself, but even more
impressively for this week, passing the ball to his teammates 8 times!
Costa worked hard, chasing the ball down and going in for the tackle
numerous times! His left foot is proving invaluable in setting up and
helping the 6's score. Overall, the Greens worked hard as a team and
deserved each and every goal we scored this morning. Good work guys!
6's Man of the Match goes to Ben, who really worked hard at and
concentrated on his passing today. It was very pleasing to see and Tammy
and I are both proud of him.

U6 Black v Wenty Waratah U6 G Won 7-1
A great game from all the Blacks today and scores which denonstrate how
far we've come as a team! Costa had some amazing passes in this game
which was pleasing to see because as we learnt today, sometimes passing
is more important than goal scoring! His great passing led to two very
impressive goals by Jamie and Fayez. Sam played magnificently, trying
hard to use both feet in his tackles and passes and was rewarded with
three goals of his own. Lemour had some great foresight today which saw
him running down the field and helping out his teammates on numerous
occasions. Rosilenn had two great big kicks which helped the blacks get
down the field quickly. Overall, a great game from the blacks today-
their coach was very proud of them!

U7 v Guildford County U7 B
U8 Purple v Granville Waratah Won 4-0
U9 div 3 v Castle Hill United Loss 1-0
U12 div 3 v Wenty Waratah Won 6-1
U13 div 4 v Wenty Waratah Loss 3-2
Last time we played Wenty the score was 2-7 down. This time we were unlucky not to end with a draw or even a win. We had the best of the attack in the first half and scored twice in the first 15 minutes in our best opening passage of the season. For the first goal everyone was so solid in their positional play as the ball came from a defensive move, that scoring seemed inevitable. The passing from our backs through midfielders to our line of forwards was fast and accurate and so well executed that in the end we had several scoring options but it ended with Carlos firing one into the net low and past the keeper’s right hand. Ryan finished another of our strong team moves to put us 2-0 up. Wenty scored a somewhat fluky goal 8 minutes from half time.

Attack has always been the strength of our team. Sometimes we press forward to with such intensity that we can find ourselves vulnerable at the back. Without the amazing efforts of our star sweeper Scott we would have more scored against us. Running perhaps twice the distance of any other player on the field during the game Scott was our man of the match.

As in our last game the commitment by all the players is very pleasing. Novvie had another good game as did Fadi. There seems to be a combination forming between Tyler and Thomas with some very slick combination moves around the Wenty defenders. Andrew O is looking the play maker with his control and accurate passing and in the last 20 minutes Andrew B’s defensive work lifted appreciably and helped keep Wenty from getting any structure to their attack. Another busy day at the office for Alex who showed it all with good anticipation and a couple of lunging saves. Matty had a solid game as did Nathan who created a couple of scoring chances by reading the play well and finding good position.

For Wenty their second half keeper had an exceptional game pulling off some very strong saves to keep us scoreless and their centre forward showed some very classy skills in to cut through and boot 2 goals.

U14 div 4 v Castle Hill RSL Won 3-2
A win is a win but this was not one of the boys best games. Scrappy
play, loose marking & then pushing up and not getting back to defend.
Consequently our 3-0 lead was soon whittled away when CHRSL had us
outnumbered in front of our goal on several occasions and managed to
convert 2 of them. 1st half we played reasonably okay and Ryan opened
our scoring with a nicely struck ball. Passing was good but trapping &
calling virtually non-existent. 1-0 at the break. 2 quick 2nd half
goals to Cameron, firstly with a penalty then a neat left foot finish at
the back post after a corner. Then the boys took their foot off the
pedal and obviously thought the game was won, but it ain't over till the
final whistle as they say and CHRSL hurt us on the counter attack.
Another good game from Bradley, and George probably with his best game
so far this season. Chris F played well in goals with well-timed runs
off his line to gather or kick clear.

U18 div 1 v Winston Hills Black Loss 5-0
O45 div 1 v Pendle Hill Loss 5-0
O35 div 6 v Pendle Hill Won 2-0
With only the bare 11 (including help from 0/45 player Pierre ) to kick off, the guys initially struggled to capitalise on any chances. Brad did a lot of good work in defending and his goal kicks were great. About 30 mins in, the voodoo was finally broken after a cross from Ray was headed in by Nashie (now in the running for the Melon award). Bill turned up at half time and his tackling in the midfield helped create more chances for the team. Andrew, Brad, Bill and Ace all had good chances with shots either hitting the post or just going wide. Ace was denied what seemed to be a clear goal and was justifiably a bit upset. A great pass from Clive was well placed by Brad to give them the second goal. A great save by Musky late in the second half helped keep the other team scoreless. (Report from Lisa)

Senior 3 v Wenty Waratah Won 3-0
Senior 4 v PCYC Parramatta Draw 1-1

Sun 14th June:
U14G v Pendle Hill Loss 1-0
U16G div 2 v Lidcombe Waratah Loss 4-3
A terrific start when Sarah P slotted home for us 2 minutes into the game. Then we allowed LW too much time on the ball to get off good passes and they released through balls for their forwards and we went to the break 2-1 down. The worst possible start to the 2nd half conceding an early goal. We had it all to do now and to their credit the girls put in the effort and were rewarded with 2 goals within minutes of each other, both the results of good lead up work from the backs and midfielders, putting the ball through for Sherri who unselfishly laid the ball off for her support both times. Firstly Sarah P was in support and tucked away a neat shot and then Emily with good attacking support from left mid finished with a delightful strike to level the game at 3-3. We endured a lot of late play in front of our goal eventually conceding a late goal. All game we had struggled to clear the ball out of the defensive third of our field and that is what hurt us in the end. Girls - we must have quick clearances away from our goal. Terrific defensive tackling often as the last player in front of goal and a solid header off the goal line earned Larissa the player of the match.

AAL div 4 v Lidcombe Waratah Won 2-0
A frustrating first half with our girls having plenty of possession and shots on goal, but the LW keeper was in excellent form. The tension at the half-time break was at a knife edge as our girls clearly expected and deserved to be up by a goal or 2. Calming words from coach took them back out for the 2nd half with the will to continue their good work knowing it would eventually pay off. Early 2nd half a rare LW raid towards our goal was neatly collected by Danni jumping to grab hold of a shot that would have just snuck under the bar. The best chance of the game came when Lisa brought down a goal kick with the iron girdle and dropped the ball to her feet, then chipped it through for Niccy whose shot at goal alas flew just over the bar. Soon after the drought was finally broken when we were awarded a penalty and Nessa neatly tucked it away. Quickly this was followed by a second goal when Kris took a clever short corner kick to Claire, who lined the ball up for her magical left foot, and curled a pearler of a shot into the back top corner - no goal keeper could have stopped it. Great game from Niccy whose speed up front caused havoc, Mel's passing was on song, Claires clearances were spectacular, and Sherrie ran well up front. Crystals traps and passes were a highlight, Di was solid in defence, and Amy exuberant in the midfield, but both Amy and Nessa need to lift their head and offload the ball earlier. A very pleasant game to watch even in the damp conditions.

Round 7 match results

Sat 30th May
U6 Green v Wenty Waratah U6/B Won 4-1
The guys played a great game and we could all tell that they have been
listening in training. Both Samuel and Costa scored twice and
Jonah was excellent in his defence saving a lot of goals.
Rosilenn as usual not scared of the boys and using her big kicks.

U6 Black v Wenty Waratah U6/F Loss 9-0
A big thanks to Jonah and Samuel for playing a second game and helping
out even though tired they both played a great game. Ben with his great
tackling skills stealing the ball afew times and Lemour using his
passing skills to get around the field.

U7 v Wenty Waratah U7/B Loss 5-2
2 goals to Kyle Schembri. Coaches trophy to Kyle Schembri, also
special note must be made to Caliyah who showed a major
improvement in her playing skills.

U8 Purple v Rouse Hill Rams Won 4-0
U9 div 3 v St Michael's Baulkham Hills Loss 4-0
U12 div 3 v Dundas Washed out
U13 div 4 v Auburn District Won 4-2
The whole team should be very proud of themselves. The Coach, Manager
and supporters certainly are. They demonstrated the commitment and
teamwork that has taken them to 3 grand finals in previous seasons.
The game started untidily with both teams taking a little while to
settle into the match. We scored a minute from half time with clever,
long throw in from Matty to Andrew A's feet. With one touch Andrew, put
the ball through to Carlos, on the left wing, who struck the ball too
solidly for the keeper to get near.
The intensity of the match picked up significantly after the break with
a real contest for getting to ball first. Auburn scored twice this half
but we slotted a further 3 home to win 4-2.
There were many highlights today. Here are just a few:
Ryan's lofted cross from the right wing was perfectly weighted to the
far post where Carlos was positioned to head the ball strongly into the
net behind their bewildered keeper. Where is the replay when you need
it? Tyler scored a miraculous goal from 25 metres out that cleared the
leaping keeper's finger with a high looping shot just sneaking in under
the cross bar.
Thomas, who had worked like a Trojan all day, was rewarded after a
number of promising moves with our final goal only few minutes before
the end after working through a crowd of Auburn players.
Mentions must be made of the team-play shown by Andrew Orlando whose
skill assisted in more than one of the goals. Fadi had a great game
being the standout player of the first half with many runs and some
surgically accurate passing. Alex had his usual strong game with two
diving, fingertip saves and one drop kick that cleared both teams and
went all the way to the other keeper. You might want to tone it down a
bit Al.
In the second half Aiden was quite scary in his commitment to attacking
the ball. His efforts resulted in us gaining more possession, giving us
the chances to score.
They really looked like they knew what they were doing. Well coached
Shaun.
This week's saying: ''You're born.'' ''You die. ''In between you play Soccer.''

U14 div 4 v Baulkham Hills Won 6-1
With 11 players and 3rd v 4th this promised to be a tough match. Our
boys rose to the challenge and put in a work-rate that had to be seen to
be believed. We outplayed BH in every department, winning almost every
loose ball, and our passing and calling was fantastic. Numerous raids
on their goal without result was frustrating our boys but they continued
to work hard and eventually the goals came. Mark with 2 long range
strikes to score our 1st and 3rd with Ryan slotting home a nice finish
for our 2nd. BH had a late run to grab a goal just before the break.
2nd half Elcin with an early goal before he got another and then Chris M
scored. Bradley played an outstanding game in the backs. Overall a
great result from a first rate effort.

U18 div 1 v Guildford County Loss 10-0
O45 div 1 v Baulkham Hills Loss 3-1
O35 div 6 v Ermington United Won 2-1
Senior div 3 v Parramatta City Won 2-1
Senior div 4 v Greystanes Won 2-0

Sun 31st May
U14G div 1 v Beaumont Hills Loss 3-0
U16G div 2 v Castle Hill RSL Loss 3-2
First half we gave CHRSL too much space and marking was too loose. As a
result we were down 2-0 at the break. 2nd half a much better effort
with us dominating the midfield. Early 2nd half a nice run from Sheri
was turned away by their defence but the ball was kept under control and
brought back to our midfield and Renea with a lovely strike from outside
the 18-yard line got our 1st goal. Soon after we levelled the scores
through strong work from the midfield. The ball going out wide to the
right and crossed in, deflecting off a defender and going in for an
own-goal. Scores remained locked for most of the half until a couple of
late runs from CHRSL wore down our defence and alas they scored the
winer with just a couple of minutes left. A better 2nd half with good
strong play in the midfield but not enough shots on goal. Strong work
and good positioning in goals saw Megan stop many attempts on our goal
earning her the player of the match award. Nice play from Rochelle and
Cassie at the back, Renea had a great game in the midfield, and Adriana,
Natasha and Sarah R all contributed well in the mids. Nice to welcome
Larissa back into the team after being injured in a pre-season trial
game.

AAL div 4 v Winston Hills Loss 4-0
AAL div 2 v Castle Hill United Loss 6-0
