2008 Registration Dates

Registration dates for Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club for the 2008 season are Saturday 2nd February from 10:00am to 2:00pm and Saturday 9th February from 10:00am to 2:00pm, at the clubhouse at Guildford West Sportsground, Foray St (off Fairfield Rd), Guildford West.

New players will need to bring an original birth certificate or simlar (we will keep a copy), photo I.D., and attend in person to have their photo taken, complete a registration form, and pay the rego fee. Fees for 2008 are Rooball (U6 to U8) $75, Juniors (9 to 17) $125, Full time students $150, and Adults/Seniors $240.

Annual General Meeting

The Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 20th November in the clubhouse commencing at 7:30pm sharp. All welcome. All committee positions will be declared vacant and will be open for nomination. Come along and have a say in the future of your club for 2008.

End of Season Picnic

The official club End of Season Picnic will be held on Sunday 4th November at Western Sydney Regional Park starting from 10 am. Access to the park is directly off the roundabout at the intersection of Cowpasture Rd and The Horsley Drive. A catered lunch will be provided - BYO drinks. Communal tables are available for sharing of nibblies, sweets and desserts. Feel free to bring along a plate to share.
The park has shelter sheds, a playground, walking / cycle paths, and plenty of open space for games. Bring along seats, shadeports, bikes, scooters, games and anything else you can think of.
Please RSVP your teams coach / manager by Sunday 28th October for catering purposes. Any special dietary requirements should be made known.

Merrylands Central Gardens Display

Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club will have a display at the Merrylands Central Gardens amphitheatre on Sunday 28th October between 11 am - 3 pm. Come along and enjoy what promises to be a fun day with lots of different displays on offer from a wide variety of participants. Any help you can give us on the day would be appreciated. We will be settting up from 10 am. Any current players can wear their club shorts, socks and boots (we will supply the tops) as there will be some fun activities to take part in with good prizes available. 2007 Presentation

The Holroyd Rangers club Presentation for 2007 will be held on Sunday 23rd September at 6:30pm at St Patricks School Hall, Calliope St, Guildford.

It is expected to go for approx 2 hours. No catering will be provided and food and drink will not be available for purchase. It is expected that team photos will be available for distribution on this night.

This presentation is for all of our teams - rooball, juniors, seniors, and girls and ladies. With 9 of our teams making the semi-finals, 7 into Grand Finals, and 3 of our teams winning Grand Finals - along with various 5 and 10 Year awards - this year's Presentation looks to be a very special night.

A club picnic is being organised - with an open invitation for all of our players, parents, siblings, coaches, managers, and officials - tentatively scheduled for Sunday 4th November, at a location to be advised. This will be fully catered for by the Holroyd Rangers club, with the exception of drinks which are BYO.

The club Annual General Meeting will also be scheduled for later this year on a date to be advised.

Up against a team that has dominated this competition all season our girls played really well but were unable to get the result they wanted. Our girls should be proud of what they have acheived this year under their terrific coaching staff. Well done to all.

Final

U/16G/1 v Kellyville Won 4-1
This was a replay from last weeks washed out game that ended at 2-2 before being called off. Today our girls came out firing and set the pace early to lead 3-0 at half-time. Congratulations to this team for getting to the Grand Final for this competition for the 2nd consecutive year. The Grand Final game is scheduled for Sunday 2nd September. 3 Grand Final Wins for Holroyd Rangers on Sat 25th August

In the 5 Grand Finals that Holroyd Rangers teams were involved in today they came out winners in 3 of them.

U/9 div 6 v St Josephs Won 4-3
Leading 4-1 at half-time and enduring a 2nd half fight-back from St Josephs but Holroyd hung on to win.

U/10 div 3 v Lidcombe Waratah Loss 7-0
Holroyd went in as the underdogs to a Lidcombe team who had dominated the whole competition all season. A valiant effort and our players were gracious in defeat.

U/11 div 4 v Toongabbie Loss 4-0
A gutsy effort from our team but Toongabbie were too strong on the day.

U/12 div 5 v Lidcombe Falcons Won 2-1 in extra time
Going into this game as favourites as Minor Premiers and beating Lidcombe 1-0 in the Semi. At 12 minutes in a superb free-kick from Mark was deflected in for an own goal. With time ticking away it looked as though that would be the final result but with only a few minutes left on the clock Lidcombe scored the equalizer to send the game into extra time. 4 minutes in a superb strike from Daniel curled into the top corner to secure us the win.

Senior 7 v Toongabbie Won 4-0
A dominant display from start to finish our boys were solid all over the park and led 3-0 at the break, adding the 4th goal early in the 2nd half. 3 Grand Final wins in 3 years for this team - awesome!

Round 18 results - girls and ladies

U/12G v Winston Hills White Won 4-0
At the start of the game we thought a win might give us a slight chance of getting 2nd place if results from other games went our way. As normal when the ref blew the whistle I pressed my stopwatch, Kirsten passed the kick off to Chloe who took a couple of steps with the ball, Victoria was steaming down the field at pace, Chloe hit the ball through the defence & Victoria passed it past the last player & then had a breakaway & finished off nicely with a shot past the keeper into the net, I looked down at my watch which read 8 secs. Then 15 mins later it was nice to see a planned corner move come off when Chloe hit a another good corner & Courtney moving in behind all the defence & hitting a great first time shot into the top of the net. A bit later Victoria scored another breakaway goal with her lightening pace. At 1/2 time it was 3-0 & the girls were in total control. In the 2nd half the girls didn't play as well as they could but still managed another goal through Victoria who netted her 3rd goal for her hat-trick. We were also awarded a penalty taken by Hayley who hit the ball too well just putting it over the cross bar. Player of the match was Vania with a much improved effort by tackling much better & giving some good through ball. As it turned out, results went our way & we came in 2nd. This is a great effort girls. Well done.

A game that had to be won and the girls got the result. Good game in patches, but we still need to spread out and also mark our opposition players and stay with them. Today was a great day to finish off the season. The first half saw us go to an early lead with Lucas scoring. The opposition then equalized to take us to the half time break 1-1. We had many opportunities in the first half but could not find the back of the net. After the break the boys and girls stepped up a gear and took the game away from the opposition. Jordonn in goals, made some great saves whilst Rayaan scored a goal and George scored a hat trick of goals. It has been great to watch how everyone has improved over the year and today everyone received an achievement award. A great effort all year by Billie, Joel, Rayaan, Ethan, Jazmin, Nikolai, George, Jordonn and Lucas, from Jason and Glenn.

All the boys and girls played very well today. As soon as the game started we went on the attack and Lucas scored from another of his long range shots. The ground was very fast and we missed out on a few goals by not keeping the ball close when dribbling. The next goal for us was kicked by George who shot from in front and then the ball bounced of several opposition players before going into the back of the net. The opposition managed to get one back early in the second half to bring the score to 2-1. From then on in the second half we continued to dominate with George scoring this time without the oppositions help. Ethan then made a run from our half to score, which saw the final score a 4-1 win to us. Ethan received the Player of the Match for his brilliant effort in both defence and attack. The achievement awards this week went to Jazmin, Billie and Lucas.

Today’s game we were down 1-0 at half time. With a chat at half time we went back out and scored 3 goals to win the game. Goal scorers today were Mitchell D (2) and Modassir. Remember guys the things we practice at training are what we want you to use in the games. Coach Vicki

Despite a super pep talk from Greg W our players never looked in this match from the outset, & never felt like they were going to do any good, which is pretty disappointing. Guys & girls you MUST go into every game with a positive attitude. All we had to do was score a goal early & defend well & Lidcombe would have been shell-shocked. Remember what happened last year? We beat this team two times during the season, then they beat us in the first semi-final 1-0 (I think), & then they just beat us in the grand final 1-0 (with nine seconds to go in extra time). We thought that we were going to beat them in the semi-final & the final because we'd beaten them before. Well look what's happened now! They've beaten us twice & we're going into the semi-finals where we will play them again. THINK POSITIVE - THINK THAT YOU CAN BEAT THEM & YOU WILL. As Greg said, they are the same age as you guys, they only have two legs like you do, and they have the same number of players on the field as you do. So you can beat them IF YOU THINK YOU CAN & YOU TRY YOUR HARDEST FROM THE KICK-OFF TO THE VERY END! It's up to you all to work as a team, & I have no doubt that you can come out winners. Brad

U/7 Neill v Popovic Wenty Waratah Won 4-2
A hard fought win today that had all the crowd buzzing with excitement. There were some great runs up the wing and also players running up the centre in support of them. We went to the half time break 2-1 up with Ethan scoring both our goals. The 2^nd half saw us running up hill and Wenty managed to score the equalizer not long after the kick off. Both teams then had numerous scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net. There were some great breaks made by Nikolai, George and Rayaan. The breakthrough came when Ethan scored another 2 goals late in the half to give us a 4-2 win. Everyone played really well today and the Encouragement Awards went to Ethan, Nikolai and George.

U/9/6 v St Josephs Loss 4-0
We knew going into this game that it was going to be tough but with players out sick or playing other sports it makes it that much harder. The 1^st half today we played with only 8 players and were only down 2-0 at half time. With the arrival of another player it gave us 9 for the 2^nd half. With the boys getting tired St Joesphs scored another 2 goals to win the game. To William-Harley, without your keeping skills today the score line could have looked like 10 nil - a big thank you from the coach. To the rest of the boy’s playing today you made me very proud to be your coach, you didn’t give up but kept trying. Hold your heads high, we will meet them again in the semi’s with a full side. Good hard game with plenty of chances at either end but Wenty got the points. Pops did a great job 2^nd half containing the roadrunner (earning himself the blanket), even climbing on his back at one point to slow him down a bit. We had our own chances and it could have gone either way until they got their 2^nd goal. Termy missed a sitter, open goal, keeper out and only the net to beat and he scuffed it. Match report: What a great game of soccer this was today, with Beaumont Hills having won every game this season, it was always going to be a hard game. The game started off positively with Shayal making a great tackle & then passing the ball to Danielle who gave a great through ball to Victoria who ran half the length of the field & just missed out on scoring with the keeper just getting a foot to it. The rest of the 1st half was very even & by 1/2 time the score was 0-0. BH came out very strong in the 2nd half & created a lot of chances & could have scored a few times except for some great goalkeeping from Karly & good goal scrambling defence from the girls at the back. At the end of the game a 0-0 draw was a great result with all the girls playing a great game. Player of the week was Shayal who played a terrific game in both defence & attack. Scott

A satisfying result against a depleted opposition of only 9 players. By half time Holroyd led 3-0 with Jade scoring her first ever goal. In the 2^nd half we experimented on a number of positions changes to work out a number of combinations coming into the semi finals. Hence Lauren J tried her luck as goal keeper and pulled off one of the saves of the year and Kristen went to centre forward and was only inches from scoring her first goal. Monique (wing), Mirna (fullback) and Miray (mid field) had their best games of the year. Sandy scored her 2^nd hat trick of the year. A game where we could have won by a larger margin but a win was all that was needed to secure a major semi berth. Player of the Match for a solid all round game and showing continuous improvement. A good win for the boys and girls this week. The 1^st half was pretty tough with much of it spent in the opposition’s goal mouth. The problem was that the opposition would all crowd into the goal mouth and we couldn’t score. Finally near the end of the 1^st half Rayaan managed to get one past the keeper. Nikolai, who was in goal for us, never saw the ball in the ball in the 1^st half we were so dominant. In the 2^nd half we ran down hill and started scoring some goals even with their crowd the goal mouth defense. Rayaan scored another to bring his tally to 2 and Jordonn also scored 2 goals. Player of the match went to Rayaan and the two encouragement awards went to Jordonn for his goals and Joel for his bravery after getting hit hard in the face with the ball.

We led for the entire game and could have gone one better but missed a penalty. Goals to Jake, Alan (two), and Shania (I think - apologies if I'm wrong), and plenty more chances missed.

13 players to a game, that’s a record for this time of the year. Good win without Supercoach, SlowFox, pressure is on you for tomorrow’s game. Slyfox scored another great (own) goal. Another yellow card for Kamikaze, who now leads the pack with 4 and needs to be careful, 1 more and he’ll have to rest. MrAliB, after missing a sitter from in front, scored a great goal 2^nd half (without his Mum being there). Much improved effort by the team today after our last 2 performances. Centreback had his cousin watching today who made the big quote that Termy was quicker than him. (Termy owes that cousin a beer – Termy knew he was much quicker anyway.) This was a very important game today, with Pendle Hill just trailing us on the ladder and 2 very hard games coming up it was great to get the 3 points. The game started off positively and after a couple of minutes Shayal put a nice ball through to Courtney, who was playing her first game in about 6 weeks due to injury and holidays, and then with her first touch of the game ran about 10 metres with the ball to finish it off with a good shot to give us a 1-0 lead. Chloe then had a couple of breakaway chances and finally put one away to give us a 2-0 lead. Pendle Hill then started attacking us more but our great defence of Sarah, Simone, Beth and Nez kept them out and when they did get by them Karly again brought off some great saves. The 2^nd half was much the same with Georgia, Kirstyn and Courtney keeping a lot of pressure on their defence and working hard as a unit. The midfield of Danielle, Vania, Shayal and Chloe worked so hard all game in both defence and attack. Another real pleasing result girls and keep up the hard work and team spirit. Player of the week was Sarah who as sweeper played great all game.

Very pleased today boys without Brad and up against a div 2 side who are the ones to beat for the title. There was some very good signs today. Great goal by Aaron from a free kick. As this our second game of our double header weekend as a team and individuals was probably the best we played all season. We keep moving in this direction we will be firing come finals time.

The boys and girls were a bit slow to get going today but they hadn’t played in 6 weeks so that was expected. As the team started to get going the skills that they have developed this year such as passing and looking for team mates started to show. We went to the have time break 2-0 ahead with goals by Ethan and Rayaan. The team started the second half better with some great runs by Ethan, Billie and Lucas with one run seeing Lucas passing to Rayaan to score. George was always in the right position to receive the ball but was unlucky to only get 1 goal. The final score was 4-0 to us. Jazmin Received the Player of the Match and both Rayaan and Ethan received the Achievement Awards.

A spectacularly exciting game for Baulko and their 100-odd spectators. With 9 men at kick-off and 10 after 15 minutes we were up against the wall from the start. Half-time down 2-1 (after scoring first from Hop’s shoulder!) and still in with a show until we well and truly ran out of puff. Baulko’s first was blatantly offside and they finished the game with 2 flukes off the side of the boot and then nuttied our keeper while on his knees!? But full marks to Baulko who kept up the pace. Referee was ordinary but it was not his abysmal performance that cost us the match - it was our own. Had we been anywhere near competitive that could possibly be a different story. After 4 weeks without playing and a lot of the girls playing sick, the girls were a bit rusty. The first half was very even with the game flowing from end to end & by half time the score was nil all. The 2nd half was much the same & Karly in goals was playing a great game keeping the scores level. With only 5 minutes to go & thinking a draw would be a fair result, Hayley put a good ball through to Victoria who made a good run into the box only to be tackled, with the ball then rolling out to Simone on the edge of the penalty area which she hit with a great shot into the top corner of the net. From the kick-off I knew the next few minutes was going to be tough, but Chloe tackled the attacker from the kick-off & scored a great solo goal by taking on half the team & finishing off with a well placed shot to take us to a 2-0 win. This was a great result for us as the top 6 teams in the comp are very close & every point is vital. Again it was a great fighting spirit from every girl. The player of the match was Karly, who made numerous good saves all game.

An extremely disappointing return to the competition . . . the big training session of 5 and the month off showed. Take nothing away from Dundas, they beat us all over the park. Certainly the lack of match practice showed, and the penalty a minute into the second half to take Dundas to 3-0 didn’t help. A lovely strike by SlyFox coming up from right back was a real crowd pleaser. (Capt G claims the assist – where was the Wombat?) Defensively Dundas were solid. Another great game for us with just 10 players and Mitchell from the Under 9's who kindly filled in as goalkeeper for us - and what a great job he did!!! Dundas didn't get one clear shot on goal. Again minus Brock our key defenders - Josh, Josh and Korai - did fantastically well. Some great play from Laith, Daniel, James and Jake in mid-field, and excellent passing and attacking up-front from Alistair (2 goals) and Cameron. The stand-out this match was most definitely Alan who not only scored three goals but showed the kind of form we've been expecting to see all season. In one amazing run he ran around not less than 5 of their players (it could have been 6), and then scored with a shot that Mark Schwarzer would have been hard pressed to stop. Well done Alan and the entire team.

After three weeks without kicking a ball this was always going to be a rusty game but it didn't take long for the team to remember what they should be doing, and by the end of the match we were clearly on top. Down 1-0 early on we quickly starting hitting our stride and were leading 2-1 by half-time. A couple more goals and Pendle Hill scored another, which was clearly off-side (the referee must have been looking at his watch or something not to see two of their players way off-side), but by then it was pretty much all over. Alistair scored a hat-trick today with other goal scorers including Shania (a great volley), Cameron, Alan and Jake. Jake was especially solid in attack all day, and Shania really had an outstanding game. She was un-stoppable down the right wing! A great team effort, especially from our defenders - minus Brock who sprained his ankle the day before our two weekend games. On coach's orders Brock has to stay in bed except for soccer training and the actual games from now until the end of the season so he doesn't hurt himself again!!!

Very ordinary team performance today. We could use the excuse with the time off, but it was the same for Auburn. Matt and Brad were the standout players in a side which was never in the game. You were intimidated today from the abuse from the sideline and the rubbish from their players and in the process didn’t play soccer. That’s the way they play. For any chance of us winning this comp we have to play as a team unit. Yes we are in the finals unless we don’t come together and give it all as individual players.
