Match results - Sat 21st/Sun22nd May/Mon 23rd May

Sat 21st May:
U6 v Wenty Kookaburras
U9 Grey v Parramatta City Loss 14-0
U9 White v Wenty Waratah Loss 4-3
U14 div 2 v Lidcombe Waratah Loss 6-0
U15 div 3 v Kellyville Won 5-1
A cracking match to watch this weekend between us Under 15/3s and Kellyville, played at home.
Ryan was the stand out for the first half with continuous forceful play and controlled aggression. He was the “dominator” through the centre. Jordan created a goal with a glancing header from a Ryan cross in a crowded goal mouth. It went from head to ground beneath the keepers outstretch hand causing desperate lunges by Kellyville defenders only to see it pass the line for one nil. Another of Ryan’s crosses created the opportunity, again for Jordan, our most prolific scorer, to slot home a second. A simple direct run and crisp strike by Ryan brought up our third goal of the day.
As a mere manager I was impressed by the effort of the whole team. Our passes seemed cleaner and we took more control from the “first touch” than has been our regular play. We created numerous chances with a run of five shots sliding by the right hand post in as many minutes. As with all games a team can only play as well as their opponents allow. As an example Tyler, this week’s Man of the Match, must have clocked a good number of frequent flyer miles as he contested many of the keeper-return-kicks with high leaps and clean headers. No wonder he has done so well as a high jumper at school. Although “tagged” a centre back he spent a goodly amount of time turning the attackers around and helping create chances from the midfield.
Fadi N. got the taste of blood after finishing a strong attacking play which left the ball loose 5 metres from the goal. He made no mistake in finding the back of the net and spent the rest of the game rushing the goals in search of any loose ball. With that attitude there will be more goals from his boot. Aiden seems to have raised the standard several notches with aggressive play and some clever, accurate passing that instigated more than one successful attack.  Mitchell’s noticeably increased speed  and commitment has made  a significant difference for our defences.
Make no mistake, Kellyville are no slouches. They created quite a number of serious chances but only scored once with a low ball driven to the left of our diving keeper. Alex’s alertness and anticipation stopped several of the attacking runs, that slipped past our diligent defenders. His clearances were strong.  Our final goal was classic Matty by outpacing the Kellyville defenders down the left wing, angling in and netting powerful left footer above the keepers left hand into the upper corner.
It’s hard to credit each player as an individual as a simple touch can turn defence into attack and an attacking opportunity into a goal. Or a chasing sprint from behind the attackers to hook a ball over the sideline can let our defences form up to cover the goals. Absolutely everyone contributed to today’s win. Well done!!! If we can keep this up it might be our year. (The Manager

U16 div 2 v Rydalmere Won 2-1
A scrappy and ugly win.  We lowered ourselves to their level, played too many balls in the air, not enough controlled passes to our players feet, need I go on?  Having said that our 2 goals were nice finishes from Seb and Huss, but we should have put away several more and killed off this game much earlier.  Instead they get a penalty call giving them a sniff of getting something from the game.  AJ pulled off a stunning penalty save but alas it rebounded straight back to their striker for a simple tap in.  Need to improve quickly as we play the top 2 teams in the next 3 weeks.

O35 div 7 v St Michaels Won 4-1
O35 div 3 v Winston Hills Won 3-0
Senior 3 v Toongabbie Won 2-1

Sun 22nd May
U16G div 1 v Baulkham Hills Won 2-1
All Age Ladies div 5 - Bye
All Age Ladies div 3 v Guildford County Draw 1-1
Soccer can be a cruel game sometimes - we were the better team on the day but did not capitalise on it and put more goals away.  DJ and Ness winning and controlling the ball well in the middle, but need to offload the passes and through balls a little earlier.  Ness scored a cracking goal as reward for her hard work.  Niccy was a real handful for their backs to contain.  We look real good when we spread out and play the quick passes to our players.  Backs were strong all game and it was just an unlucky bounce that gave them their goal.

All Age Ladies div 2 v Merrylands SFC Loss 5-2

Mon 23rd May (round 6 catch up game)
All Age Ladies div 3 v Castle Hill RSL Loss 9-0
Each week you can see we are improving our game, in this new division.  This game we were up against a team whose average wins have been 9-0.  For periods of the game we were at their goals quite a bit but just couldn't convert.   Dee from the ladies 5's helped us out and she was a little pocket rocket, chasing and challenging for the ball at every opportunity.  Rochelle turned up to play even though she wasn't 100% wellOverall everyone put in a huge effort. Heads up ladies, and onto the next game.

Supporter of the Week - Ladies Round 6

A bit of chilly weather does not deter our tough supporters.  With beanie and crocheted Holroyd Rangers rug, Tyler bunkers in to support the Ladies 2 at their match. Of course some hot chips and other supplies from the canteen help too.  Good on you Tyler.

(Catch up game) U16 v Wenty Uniting Loss 2-0
U16G div 1 v Castle Hill United Draw 1-1
Good to see the U16 girls get a draw after a few losses.  They are putting in a great effort with extra training nights and hopefully these efforts will continue to be rewarded over the coming weeks.
All Age Ladies div 5 v Castle Hill RSL Loss 1-0
The Ladies 5 had their first loss of the season.  Heard from the coach and players that the game was pretty evenly matched with Castle Hill perhaps having the edge in energy over Holroyd  who played with  no reserves.
All Age Ladies div 3 v Castle Hill RSL Wht  Deferred game
All Age Ladies div 2 v Toongabbie Won 3-0
Nearly went to watch the Matildas play at Gosford but instead watched our Ladies 2 play at Merrylands v Toongabbie. And I was not disappointed.
Rebecca traps the ball.
The game was great to watch, with the whole team using each other to keep control of the match.  Passing was spot on, and great through balls made the most of the speed of Sarah and Lauren who ran onto the balls with ease.  The new players are fitting in well and did not back off, challenging well for the ball.  About 15 minutes into 2nd half a little bit of concentration was lost and this was the only real chance that Toongabbie had, with a one on one with our keeper. Kristin timed her run out perfectly and kicked the ball away, with it ultimately being cleared by the Holroyd defense.  5 minutes until the siren blew and an unlucky handball in the box gave Toongabbie a penalty.  Kristin was up to the challenge and saved the ball to keep a clean sheet for Holroyd.  Minutes later we were on the attack and a great pass to Lauren wide on the right was well controlled and she then expertly passed it through the centre just in front of Sarah.  Sarah ran onto the ball and as the keeper came out to her, Sarah kept her composure and neatly placed the ball in the right hand corner of the net.  The whole play from the girls was beautiful to watch.  Congrats to the ladies and to Rob their coach.  For us spectators it was a very enjoyable afternoon at soccer.

Sun 8th May:
U16G div 1 v Castle Hill RSL Loss 4-0
All Age Ladies div 5 v Ermington Won 10-0
The game was only minutes old when Nathalie (captain on the day) thundered a volley shot in to the bottom left hand corner of the oppositions net setting the theme for the game. Whilst the score line of ten nil indicated one way traffic, Holroyd's defence was kept busy with Elise, Stephanie Larissa and Sarah all putting in big performances. Jess (goalkeeper) pulled off some good saves and turned defence into attack with her accuracy when required to kick the ball back into the field of play.  The midfield was tireless in their efforts with Kasey, Nathalie, Dee and Shayley working hard and winning the ball time and time again, special mention goes to Shayley who's runs up the right hand side of the field cut the Ermington defence to pieces. Congratulations go to Dee and Kimberley who both scored their first ever goals. Finally to the forwards Sherrie, Sarah and Kimberley, as always they were hard to catch and did not give Ermington's defence a moments peace. It was good to see Holly at the game, unfortunately Holly injured herself pre-season and is unable to play this season. Her contribution to the team will be missed this season.

All Age Ladies div 3 v Greystanes Won 4-2

All Age Ladies div 2 v Pendle Hill Black Loss 8-2

Sadly John Muscat passed away on Monday 29th November after suffering heart failure.
John was a past player, coach and president at Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club.
In his long soccer career John played and coached at numerous clubs in our association, and was very well known and respected.

John was 56 years of age.

The funeral will be held on Friday 3 December, 2010 commencing at 1pm at

Our players on the field at Sydney FC game

Last Sunday 18th November some of our players volunteered to help at the Sydney FC game at Parramatta Stadium.  They all got free passes to the game as did one parent.  They were seated close by when Sydney FC scored their two goals to win the game.  An added benefit was that they got photos taken with Shannon Cole, Mark Bridge and Hiro Moriyasu.

18.11.10

Sydney FC at Parra Stadium

Holroyd Rangers have been asked if some of our players aged between 12 - 16 would like to attend the Sydney FC game on Sun 21st Nov. The children will get to take a promotional banner onto the field at half-time. Game starts at 3pm but participants will need to be there by 1pm. Anyone interested should contact John on 0422006939. Great promo for our club and great fun for the kids.

1.11.10

Clubhouse clean and clear

A small army of dedicated and mad volunteers brushed, cleaned, cleared, scrubbed and washed.  Everything was pulled out, assessed, reorganised and or refiled.  New storage racks built as well as things hung.   Apart from all the hard work it was all done in good humour and great spirit and we are all pretty proud of how it all looks now.  We will be well organised for registrations and next season. So if you notice make sure you let us know how great it all looks.

27.10.10

Clubhouse clean-up day Sunday 31st October

Sun 31st Oct at 10am.

Clean-up of the whole clubhouse both inside and out.  All help is welcome no matter how large or small.

Anyone with specialised cleaning equipment, e.g. water blaster/gurney, would be particularly useful.

Should only take a couple of hours and then we will relax with a BBQ lunch.  Hope to see you there.

U21 Girls Champion of Champions Grand Final

Last Sunday our U21 girls team face Culburra in the Champion of Champions Grand Final.  Unfortunately they were defeated by Culburra 6-1.  However of note, Sarah Mason from our AAL2 was the only player to score a goal in the game for Granville.  Sarah was definitely a key player for the Granville team throughout the tournament and it was a pleasure to watch her play.
It was really great that the team got to Grand Finals and in fact was the only team from Granville in any age group to reach Grand Finals.

U21 Girls Champion of Champions

For some of us the soccer season has ended.
For others it continues, and one of our players from the All Age Ladies 2 team, Sarah Mason, has been playing as part of a composite team representing Granville District in the U21 Girls Champions of Champions Team.
On 10th October the girls played against Marrickville and won their game.

Yesterday on Sunday 17th October the girls played against  Rooty Hill RSL.
Granville scored in the first half and this was scored by Sarah.  Granville had the best of the play and numerous other scoring opportunities but couldn't increase the difference.  Rooty Hill had a few shots but were denied by Granville's keeper who was fearless in her saves and was probably a bit battered and brusied from quite a few collisions with their strikers. Unfortunately in the last two minutes of normal time Rooty Hill scored to equalise.  Two extra ten minute halves were next with more chances by Granville.  In the second ten minutes both the Granville goalie and a Rooty Hill striker were down for the count after a collision in the box.  We had to leave at that stage so hope both girls are all right.  However we received the good news by text that Granville scored in the last 20 seconds of extra time and yet again it was Sarah from our club who scored the clincher.

We are very proud of Sarah and congratulate her and the other girls who make up the U21 girls team who have made a big effort to come together as a quality team within a short time period.  Congratulations also to their Coach Dee Johnson.

A few images video of Sarah in the two matches for you to view below.

Grand Final match is at Valentine Park next Saturday 23rd October at 11:00am.

This is a fantastic achievement and an award everyone in our club can be proud of.  It comes about by the actions of each and every one of us.  Our successes on the soccer field and conduct on and off the field are just some contributors towards this award.  Everyone should take a pat on the back - well done to all of us involved with Holroyd Rangers as players, officials, parents or spectators.
A bonus of the award is $1000 to spend at Football NSW Soccer Wearhouse.

Our club Registrar Mel Cook also received a nomination for the Club Person of the Year.  Well deserved, Mel.

U16 Girls Grand Champions!

Holroyd U16 Girls won their Grand Final 3-1 v Kellyville to be crowned Grand Champions! In very windy conditions a tense battle saw Kellyville score mid-first half against the run of play. 15 minutes into the 2nd half we equalized through a penalty kick. 2 more goals followed soon after to put us 3-1 up with 10 minutes to play. Coach Hopper said later he had faith all along the girls would get the job done. Well done to all the girls and the coach and manager. Great to see so many Holroyd supporters there to cheer our girls home. Congratulations girls.

It doesn't matter whether you helped for an hour or were there all day, it was all very much appreciated. I think this shows the fantastic team spirit and camaraderie that we have at our club. There was lots of individual good play in the game today but we seemed to lose team formation and that gave the opposition their chances. So even though we all put our 100% in it just didn't click in the right way. It wasn't an enjoyable match either due to  the behaviour of some of the opposition.  Lets not dwell on it  but learn from it, be positive, work on ways to improve and pick ourselves up from this one and move forward to the semis being proud of how far we have come..

Well ladies this had to be the match of the season. Every single player stepped up and made the game their own.  Defense was rock solid and control of the ball was excellent.  Balls were being brought down to the defenders feet and then with control kicked back up the field to one of our players.  Midfield and forwards were anticipating and moving to receive the ball.  Also they were using the field and lots of  1-2 touches to get around the Dundas defence.   Our goalies also kept us in the game with their quick reflexes.  As one of the team noted we went in hard after every ball even when not sure if we could get to it.  We hassled and kept at Dundas until either we got the ball or made them kick it out or kick it blindly. We did not stop even though there were no reserves.
A special thanks to our coach who puts in lot of effort to improve our skills and to our family and friends who come along each week to support us and motivate us.  Hope you guys enjoyed the match as much as we did.
While there may have been a vote for one player of the match, I believe every single player deserved player of the match this week.    Super effort.  Bring on the semis girls.
All Age Ladies div 2 v Beaumont Hills Loss 3-0

Holroyd Under 8's - great ambassadors for our club

Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club Committee has recently received the following email about our Under 8's team great sporting spirit.

From Greystanes Soccer Club Re U8/1’s
Please pass on my congratulations to your U8's team.

My boys played against them last week and it was a very enjoyable experience.

The kids from the Holroyd team played the game with good sportsmanship

The spectators were very encouraging to all the players and some even applauded good performances by Greystanes.

The referee (I assume one of their coaches) was very fair and honest in his interpretation of the game and gave both teams equal opportunities

The coach displayed great sportsmanship and when we only had a total of 6 players prior to kick off, he offered to only play 6 kids on his team too, so that we were equal, even though he had 4 reserves.

The Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club committee thanks the Under 8's players, parents, spectators and coach and manager for being great ambassadors for our club.  Keep up the great work

In memory - Edwin Cordova

Sadly Edwin Cordova passed away this weekend.  Edwin was a player in our All Age Mens div 3 team that won the Grand Final in 2009.  Edwin had been playing with the team in division 2 this year.  He has been a player with our club for several years.  Edwin will be sorely missed by all who knew him, and all his team mates at Holroyd Rangers.
Edwin with his team mates (bottom row, third from the left).

Mixing it with USA players

Saturday 31st July one of our All Age Ladies 2 joined in with a combined Granville team to play a match against a team of 16- 20 year old American girls. At very short notice Jackie from our AAL2 took on the challenge to take part in the team.
The combined Granville team played really well together considering that they hadn't had any chance to train together before hand.  A great experience for all the girls.

Very very disappointed in the team performance today, one of those games where a lot of the girls were not there at the game today.  Larissa was the coaches player of the match for a very solid display at fullback.  To our keeper of the day (my little girl) what do you say about that goal, don't need to say any more except the gloves are now hung up and retired.  We have a lot of work to do girls, the holiday is over.  Coach

All Age Ladies div 4 v Winston Hills Black  Won 1-0
Great game with our 10 players giving their all.  Goal mid 1st half and a solid passing game totally controlling the play and not letting WHB into the game at all.

O35 div 6 v St Michaels Won 4-2
Keen to avenge our first round 1-0 loss to St Micks we came out fired up and soon went ahead with a couple of quick goals. Another before the break and we were comfortable, but perhaps sat back too much 2nd half and St M came at us strongly. They scored through a penalty then we got 1 more to put the game out of reach before they grabbed a late 2nd goal. All in all we played well but took our foot off the pedal in the 2nd half. Great job Webby running the subs and Tony reffingSenior 3 - game deferred.

Sun 27th June:
U16G div 2 v Kellyville Won 2-1

Very tough, hard fought win today.  2 great goals by Sarah P., great save by keeper Shayley from a direct penalty, some injuries as well.  Was a super team effort today, every team seems to be coming after the leaders and your response over the last couple of weeks has been fantastic.  It’s a tough month ahead girls but if you show the courage, determination and enthusiasm you showed today there will be no stopping us.  Very proud of the effort today.  Coaches player of the match was Sarah L. who stopped wave after wave in our last line of defence.  Coach

O35 div 6 v Kellyville Won 8-1
An eventful 1st half saw us 1-1 at the break. Some argy-bargy between players almost proving our own undoing. 2nd half we settled and played good football, passing well and placing our shots to good effect. Well done Tony in goals and thanks to Mladen for reffing. We can beat any team in this comp if we cut out all the arguing and other crap, so why do we keep doing it?

Senior 3 v Parramatta City Won 8-1
U16G div 2 v Rouse Hill Rams Loss 2-0
Our 1st loss of the season and the most proud I have been of the team this season. Top of the table clash we started with 10 then had to play with 9 for about 15 min when one of our girls was taken out. I had to drag my daughter Cassie out of her sick bed to play which I was so proud of, she did it for the team and the coach / dad. We had injuries and some other sick girls. I’m going to mention the 10 of you, it was a super effort, and 2-0 down at half-time you outplayed RH 2nd half. Well done Cassie, Courtney, Cleo, Kacey, Kaylah, Sarah L, Sarah P, Shayal, Simone, and Susan.

All Age Ladies div 4 v Wenty Waratah Won 7-2
After the previous days thrashing the Ladies 4 went into this game determined not to make the same mistakes. Straight away you could tell the difference because we were passing and not blindly kicking the ball anywhere. Placement of shots on goal were really good. An example of this was Claire's curled shot into back corner of the net. Congratulations to Mel for her first goal. Di, Tammy, Lauren and Nicki K defended well against some fast strikers. Everyone played well but Bec and Mel had outstanding games and this was reflected in player votes. Players of the match were Bec, Nicky P and Mel. Scorers were Nicole P, Vanessa, Claire, Mel, Rochelle. (Stand in coach JN now retiring with 1 win from 1 game)

All Age Ladies div 2 v Toongabbie Won 3-2

O35 div 6 v Parramatta City Won 11-1
PC bottom of the table and playing short and with injured players proved to be cannon fodder for us. Their goalkeeper made numerous valiant saves but could only do so much. Plenty of us getting on the scoresheet (although JN still couldn’t manage it) including a wonder strike from Pasta Dom. Injured Don tried hard to stay in goals but handed over to Singh for the 2nd half and PC chipped him with a neat free kick.

Senior 3 v Merrylands SFC
Won 6-2

Sun 13th June:
U16G div 2 v Wenty Waratah Draw 0-0
Players away today and a couple of sick girls, one of those games where we didn’t play too well as a team. We did fight hard in the end to fight for a draw. Coaches award today goes to Simone who had a great 1st half and played in goals 2nd half when no-one else would. Coach

All Age Ladies div 4 v Castle Hill United Loss 7-0
Not much to say except when we play a passing game we do a lot better. We've beaten this team before and could have done so again but were not switched on.
All Age Ladies div 2 v Beaumont Hills Loss 2-1
We had the pleasure of watching the Ladies 2 play this match. The ladies played a good passing game and made many good approaches to goal but luck wasn't with them on the final shots. Goalie Kristen made some really great saves and Jackie was dogged in her determination to get the ball. Good to see Jade using her head. Bec was unlucky not to score. Kim, Lauren and Sarah were solid in the midfield making good use of the field to create chances. New players to the team are fitting in well and everyone is contributing with well thought out passing and supporting each other.

Great game girls. Next one will be a win! (John and
Lisa)

2 goals to Ray and 1 to Blaz. Pasta Dom's chest down almost came
off but he couldn't convert it. Again our midfield went to sleep
in the 2nd half - we must improve on this.

Senior 3 v Castle Hill United - washed out
Senior 2 v Greystanes - Loss by Forfeit

Sun 30th May:
U16G div 2 v Lidcombe Waratah Won 9-0
Some very good individual performances today, Sarah P. & Simone
were great in both scoring hat-tricks, Cleo scored her 1st goal
of her career, Renea chipped in with 1 & Sarah L. after letting
loose from her sweeper position & giving her a run in the
midfield scored a great goal. Well done girls nearly half way
through the comp & we are now 6 points clear sitting nicely on
top of the table. We have to keep improving & getting better
each week for the run home. Well played team. Coach

All Age Ladies div 4 v Dundas Won 2-1
A great win against the 2nd placed team. Sherrie got their
keeper upset & put her off her game. 2 nice goals from
corners - Ness with a volley & later on Tammy a left footer
from distance. Dunnies upset at losing but hey we got the
3 points. Excellent games from Di & Niccy K & Megan great
in goals all game. Lisa enjoyed the run in midfield.
Claire Player of the Match.
