Sat 21st July:
U6 v Wenty Waratah D
U7 v Greystanes B
U10 div 3 v Pendle Hill Won 3-0
U15 div 2 v Rouse Hill Won 3-2
This was sent to our club email address from a parent from the U15/2 Castle Hill United team:
"I just wanted to pass on congratulations to your U15/2 team for their win on Saturday v Rouse Hill.
I am the parent of an U15/2 player at Castle Hill United (and also previous committee member) and we have played your U15/2 team twice this season. Both games resulted in wins to CHU, but our parents and our boys were so very impressed by your team’s spirit, morale and attitude on both occasions and we admire their resilience in turning up each week to play in what must be a very frustrating season for them. We normally call such a tough season “character-building” but your boys appear to have that in spades already!
I was speaking to some parents from Castle Hill Rockets 15/2 team on Saturday and they also commented on what a fantastic group of boys you have in that team. You should be justifiably proud of them as they are great ambassadors for your community.
I was absolutely delighted to see them post a win on Saturday and I’m sure I speak on behalf of quite a few parents and U15 boys here in the Hills in saying we wish your boys much success in their future soccer."

All Age Men div 6 v Winston Hills White Loss 6-2

Sun 22nd July:
U16G div 2 v Merrylands SFC Draw 0-0
The girls played a fantastic game full of enthusiasm which resulted in a nil all draw
against Merrylands. The team is suffering from a few injuries but managed to struggle
through the game. On the previous Monday evening, the team had an amazing win against
Castle Hill United with a score of 10-nil. Again due to injuries the girls played short but
lifted themselves to keep on scoring and defending brilliantly. Although Castle Hill are at
the bottom of the ladder and our team is currently leading it was still an excellent effort
to keep the opposition to nil for both of these games. Hopefully this coming Sunday we will
be back to our full strength team. Thanking all the parents and supporters of this group of
girls - you are superb supporters and all the girls thrive on this backup.

Round 8 catch up games

Played Wed 11th July:
All Age Ladies div 3 v Greystanes Won 1-0
Greys undefeated before this game and we took the game right to them. We dominated all over the park and barely gave Greys a shot on goal. We had 2 shots 1st half both off the crossbar - Kriscia with a header then Tanesha with a long range effort - score 0-0 at the break. 2nd half was more of the same and we had a couple of counter-attacks from sweetly timed through balls. Great effort defensively tightly marking their players to blunt the Greys attack. The break-through finally came 6 minutes before full time with Tanesha running onto a through ball and slotting it into the corner to start much elation from all the Holroyd players and spectators. Good to see such a large contingent of Holroyd supporters out for this night game.

All Age Ladies div 4 v Ermington Won 4-2
All Age Ladies div 3 v Castle Hill RSL Won 1-0
A bit of a scrappy game but we did enough to get the win. We won lots of corners but could have and should have pressed harder when in front of goals. Numerous half-chances at their goal which we failed to capitalise on, we need to convert many more of these half-chances. We are capable of beating any team in this comp and winning it, but we need the hunger when we play. 38th minute after corner number 50 (or so it felt like) the corner was taken low and along the goal line, ball trapped by Ness who turned around her player and chipped her shot from a tight angle and into the far top corner over the keepers head.

Amy kicks out from goals after another safe pick up
Typical of this game, lots of Holroyd players trying to win the ball

2nd half we pressed again and had several good chances with Kriscia shooting wide and Tammy a couple of good runs onto through balls as well as a header from a cross but alas nothing could find the target, and their keeper was quickly out to gather the ball. Last 10 minutes we stopped and let CHRSL attack us and with a better striker they could have got the equaliser. Remember to play the full 90 minutes and it ain't over until the final whistle. When we are winning the game don't stop and give them a chance to get back into it. Otherwise a good win - roll on AAL/3s!

Started with 10 men and went down 2-0 fairly quickly. Our 11th player arrived and we were 3-0 down at the break. Determined play 2nd half, we held shape well and pressed hard, forcing errors and an own goal. This was followed by some neat play between Fridge and Greks with Fridge hitting a superb strike low and hard into the corner. A good game and an excellent 2nd half against a good bunch of blokes.

Visit by Matildas player Catherine Cannuli

Holroyd Rangers welcomed a visit by Matilda’s player Catherine Cannuli to Guildford West Sportsground on Thursday evening 28th June. Catherine chatted with our coaches and club officials before running the training session for our U10s team.

A series of warm up routines was followed by a variety of fun drills to develop individual ball skills as well as improve teamwork. It was noted that our U10s team were very attentive for the entire training session and were heard later saying how much fun they had. All our U10 players thanked Catherine for her visit and a group photo was taken to finish off. Catherine is a relative of one of the players in our U10s team.

Catherine has just completed a training camp with the Matildas squad (Australian womens soccer team) which concluded with 2 international friendly games against New Zealand – the results of which were a 1-1 draw followed a few days later by a 2-0 win to Australia.

Holroyd Rangers Soccer Club says thanks to Catherine for volunteering her time and visiting our club and she is welcome back at any time. We wish Catherine lots of luck with her international career and also in the upcoming W-League season.

U16G div 2 v Rouse Hill Won 4-0
The under 16 girls showed what they were made of on the weekend with a fantastic 4 nil win over Rouse Hill.  The girls excelled in their defence holding Rouse Hill out for the entire match.  Four fantastic goals were scored - one from a back, two from the mid-fielders and one from a forward, proving to the girls that anyone can score!!!  It is so nice to see all of the girls playing as a team and working together with lots of talking on the field.  Our normal goalie played on the field this week and we put a first year player in goals and she did a marvellous job saving a "sure goal" right before the line.  This team is a pleasure to watch and to be a part of - you all should be
so proud of yourselves.

Auburn are last years district champions as well as FNSW Champion of Champions and State Cup winners. They are a class above and no-one is going to come close to them this season. 1st half we left holes in the midfield which they walked through creating goals as they wished. 2nd half we pushed harder to retain our shape and worked better defensively in the middle. We were unlucky not to score when Seb’s chip shot over their keeper hit the crossbar. But minutes later we were again on the attack and Cam’s neatly placed header found the mark. We are the 1st team to score a goal against Auburn this year. Take heart from your 2nd half performance and take that sort of play into the next game and we’ll get better results.

O35 div 5 v Rouse Hill Won 4-2
All Age Men div 7 v Winston Hills White Draw 1-1
Ordinary 1st half, players turning up late or just in time does not allow us to get off to a good start. We rallied hard and changed our structure slightly and owned the 2nd half, scoring the equalizer with Nath’s neatly placed shot, then pressed hard and were unlucky not to get the winner.

Sun 6th May:
U16G div 2 v Winston Hills Won 2-1
All Age Ladies div 4 v Ermington Won 3-1
All Age Ladies div 3 v Castle Hill RSL Won 2-0
Great game from every single player. 2 goals to player of the match Ness but many more players had good chances to add to the scoreboard (I suggest some shooting practice drills at training). Lauren, Rochelle, Niccy and Lisa great in the backs gave CH no chances. Mids worked hard on the big field and ran down every loose ball. Forwards toiled hard against some good defence and just need a little work on better positioning. The team is a pleasure to coach.

Round 2 catch up games played Sun 6th May:
U6 v Toongabbie C
U10 div 3 v Parramatta City Loss 4-3
U16 div 2 v Dundas Won 4-0
What a weekend. 2 games, two well deserved wins. Saturday against Winston Hills the score was 3-1 with the goal credits spread between Jordon, Marcus and Nathan and though scoring is critical the field play by all the boys was excellent.
If anything I feel the boys played better during Sunday’s tussle versus Dundas.  It was a 4-0 drubbing. 3 from Jordon’s boot and one from his head.
In a very busy game I could not name a player who did not have what would have been labelled a “standout game” in bygone seasons. Where the success came from was the wonderful teamwork. I lost count of the number of combination passing passages in the games where 3, 4 or 5 players were involved. Many a time the opposition was left stepping the wrong way or completely off balance. Our defenders and newcomer keeper Matty excelled in, neutralising or deflecting any attacking moves and putting Winston Hills on their heels.
In attack, our opportunities where well constructed and the finishes executed strongly and at times with panache.
Our control through the mids was the hub for our tactical constructs and made the transition from defence to attack smooth and often lightning quick, much to the chagrin of the opposition.
The completeness of our play cannot be overstated. I cannot recall having seen us play where all the boxes were so profoundly ticked: Skill, Attack, Control, Defence, Stamina, Focus, Composure, Commitment, Desire, Belief
The games were fast and entertaining. If this is an indication of what’s ahead I am so looking forward to it.
Well done to all our boys and the coaches.
O35 div 5 v Dundas Won 6-2

Round 3 match results

Sat 28th April:

U6 v Merrylands SFC C
U7 v Greystanes B
U10 div 3 v Merrylands SFC Loss 1-0
U15 div 2 v Castle Hill RSL Loss 10-1
U16 div 2 v Castle Hill United Draw 3-3
U17 div 1 v Toongabbie Loss 2-1
Again poor marking gave our opposition too many chances on goal. AJ terrific to stop more going in. Sonthaya with a nice finish to open the scoring but then we sat back and let Toonie run through us several times. Tighter marking in defence and better passing and our game and results will improve.

O35 div 5 v Kellyville Won 7-1
All Age Men div 7 v Lidcombe Waratah Loss 4-1
Woeful game with poor finishing early on costing us goals we should have put away and gone ahead in the game much more confident. Instead arguing and loss of composure cost us this one big time.

All Age Men div 6 v Lidcombe Waratah Loss 4-2

Sun 29th April:

Much better game today in windy conditions. Strong and tight marking in defence was the key. Good quick passing in the middle of the park, and we made the most of our chances on goal. Lovely header from Nath to start and a good goal from the Fridge.

Round 2 Sun 22nd April:

U16G div 2 v Pendle Hill Won 2-0
A solid performance from the girls - terrific play in the middle of the park and some great finishing up front, and the backs were strong in defence. Backs and midfield need to offload the passes a little earlier and many more chances will be created on goals.

U17 div 1 v Wenty Uniting Loss 6-0
A welcome to div 1 for both teams with Wenty being the much better side on the day. We were unstructured and too loose in defending and allowed too much space for Wenty players on the ball to place their shots. Need to tighten up on marking players and improve our passing when in possession.

O35 div 5 v Newington Won 1-0
All Age Men div 7 v Winston Hills Red Loss 5-1
Winsto younger and fitter and better on the day and deserved to win this one. We can and will improve and once our new players start to gel with the rest of the team our play will get better.

All Age Men div 6 v Wenty Waratah Loss 4-2

Sun 15th April:
U16G div 2 v Castle Hill United Won 7-1
All Age Ladies div 4 - bye
All Age Ladies div 3 v Winston Hills Black Loss 2-1
Our girls dominated this game with many many shots on goal. Unfortunately Winsto capitalised on our basic mistakes to score twice. We rallied hard but could not grab the equaliser. Our new sweeper needs time and training to learn her role, and the new young girls are a great addition to the team.

Competition start delayed

All clubs have been formally advised by Granville Association that the start of the 2012 competition will be delayed "due to the unworkable weather conditions, the uncertainty of ground availability and player safety due to the inability to have cricket pitches covered with turf, goal posts erected on sufficient number of parks and to allow clubs to train and coordinate their teams and players efficiently, the start of the season will be delayed until after the Easter Break, that is the weekend of 14 April".

Round 1 games are now scheduled to commence on Sat 14th / Sun 15th April.

26.2.12

Lights, action, . . .

A bright start to our Holroyd Rangers 2012 season with 6 new light towers going up at our home ground at Guildford West Sportsground.  Two of the new light towers can be seen in the picture on the right.

Work started last week to install the 6 new light towers, which will bathe both of our 2 main fields in 100 lux of light.  Holroyd Council are arranging the installation of the lights and these new facilities are as a result of funding from both Holroyd Council and a NSW State Government grant.

The installation of this lighting gives us the minimum required light levels to allow us to play night games if required. If the summer rain continues into the soccer season we may need to play mid-week catch up games and these lights will allow that to happen at our fields if needed.  It will also benefit our teams on training nights as both fields will be lit uniformly across all fields, eliminating dark spots.

It is expected the lights will be fully operational by the start of the competition at the end of March.   Once these new lights are operational the four existing light towers will be removed.

In 2012 there will be NO Under 18 Girls comp.
