26.2.12

Lights, action, . . .

A bright start to our Holroyd Rangers 2012 season with 6 new light towers going up at our home ground at Guildford West Sportsground.  Two of the new light towers can be seen in the picture on the right.

Work started last week to install the 6 new light towers, which will bathe both of our 2 main fields in 100 lux of light.  Holroyd Council are arranging the installation of the lights and these new facilities are as a result of funding from both Holroyd Council and a NSW State Government grant.

The installation of this lighting gives us the minimum required light levels to allow us to play night games if required. If the summer rain continues into the soccer season we may need to play mid-week catch up games and these lights will allow that to happen at our fields if needed.  It will also benefit our teams on training nights as both fields will be lit uniformly across all fields, eliminating dark spots.

It is expected the lights will be fully operational by the start of the competition at the end of March.   Once these new lights are operational the four existing light towers will be removed.

Presentation Day award nominations

Presentation Day Awards - Sunday 23rd October 2011

They will be awarded on our Presentation Day on Sunday October 23rd, but nominations must be in by Sunday 16th October.

Last year our whole Under 8s team was nominated for Code of Conduct awards due to their great sporting attitude (see pictured).

This year we have two awards:

1. Player Code of Conduct Award.
Anyone can nominate a player they feel worthy of this award. Players, parents, coaches can nominate a suitable player.
Do you have a player or team mate in your team who displays the following:

  • Teamwork
  • Never argues with an official, coach, manager or team mate
  • Controls temper and avoids verbal abuse, sledging or deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent
  • Behaves respectfully towards players, coaches, referees, officials and spectators.
If so, nominate them for the Player Code of Conduct Award.

All Age Ladies div 5 gracious in Grand Final loss

Sun 11th:

Holroyd Rangers All Age Ladies div 5 team were gracious in defeat today losing their Grand Final 2-0 v Kellyville. A couple of good early shots on goal did not fall for us then Kellyville scored on the counter attack. The score remained at 1-0 for much of the match. We had 2 more good chances - a curling free kick from Shannon almost snuck in the near post, and a flicked high shot from Kacey almost caught their keeper napping.  It was not to be our day though because with 5 minutes left to play we were pushing forward in an attempt to grab a late goal when Kellyville snuck through for a 2nd goal. All the girls should hold their heads high for a fantastic season and should be proud of getting to the Grand Final. Well done on a great season - we are proud of you all.
