Holroyd Rangers player winner of McDonalds Football Scholarship

Congratulations to Cameron Nash from the U14/4 's who was successful with his application for a McDonalds Scholarship for 2009.

Cameron had to write about his football achievements, how the scholarship would help his football development and how the funds would be used. His application was forwarded to GDSFA where with others from the Granville district it was forwarded to Football NSW for consideration. From all districts across NSW, Football NSW then selected 32 recipients for the scholarship. Only two from the Granville District were successful applicants - Cameron being one of those.
Cameron has already allocated some of the money from the $500 grant towards a Football NSW soccer camp in the first week of the school holidays.
See Football NSW for a list of the lucky recipients

Played on Sunday 5th July:
U9 div 3 v Wenty Waratah Loss 4-0
U13 div 4 v Pendle Hill Draw 1-1
It was a tough game with the play moving from end to end. After the best of
field position and the lead for 55 minutes we finished with a frustrating
1-1 draw. Ryan, without question our major striking force, hit the back of
the net yet again. Though scoring is essential it needs to be said that it
takes a lot to keep the ball away from our own goals and give the forwards
the chances. At the back Scott gave his usual amazing, acrobatic effort
while Novvie showed great commitment and skill in defence. Exhibiting some
pleasing new aggression today Fadi took the ball in the air a number of
times and depriving the opposition of time to react. Andrew B again put
himself in places where he could hustled the ball from the best of their
guys. Nathan is ever the games "thinker", reading or making the play and
putting quality passes onto the toes of team members. It was confounding
that Thomas didn't score today but regularly was shut down by the defence.
Matty covered a lot of ground, and rubbed himself on quite a bit of it,
while throwing himself into tackles and coverage plays. Using his abundant
skills in numerous runs Andrew O cut through their players, stealing the
ball and feeding it through with slick, selfless passes. He was our MOTM
today. Thanks to Tyler and Ryan for pulling on the keepers gloves. Our
enthusiastic rookie Aaron is all finding his place. An unlucky days guys but
well played.

U7 v Wenty Waratah U7 D
U8 Purple v Baulkham Hills Won 8-0
U9 div 3 v St Johns Loss 9-0
U12 div 3 v Lidcombe Waratah Won 7-1
U13 div 4 v St Josephs Won 3-2
Another good win for the team with 3-2 over St Joeys. With Scott running
miles and throwing himself into the challenges. He was our Man-of
-the-Match. However he was not alone with exceptional efforts. There are no
slackers in our team, everyone is making significant contributions. We ARE
working as a team. As Alex was sick Tyler took to the goals and did a great
job, in one instance taking a screamer out of the air in a congested goal
mouth from a well weighted cross. Again Ryan scored a double. In one
instance he took on the defence on his own, ploughing through and finishing
with power. Carlos also scored. He has a talent for appearing in the right
place at the right time to finish in style. Aiden had runs and some quality
touches both in defence and attack. It was terrific to see Mitchell back on
the field and played surprisingly well after such a long injury break. All
played well. Good job!

U14 div 4 v North Rocks Won 3-2

Sun 5th July:
U14G div 1 v Beaumont Hills Loss 1-0
U16G div 2 v Wenty Waratah Won 2-1
AAL div 4 v Wenty Waratah Won 5-0
The whole team put in a superb effort in this game. Passing was good and lots of talk made sure that players knew what options they had. Initially it was difficult to score as Wenty seemed to have most of tbeir team in the goal box defending. In the second half we made better use of our midfielders to create some space and this helped in the goal scoring department. We could have made better use of our chances if we had made sure that someone was running into the farpost area when in the goalbox. That is something we need to continue to work on. But truly the best team effort so far this season which contributed to goals by Vanessa, Nicky Potts and Lisa.

Out of 14 boys that showed up for the game 6 were fairly sick. The
first 15 minutes we had all the game but one by one the boys dropped.
They did well and showed a lot of determination to keep the score at
2-0. Thanks boys, you show you have the self discipline to win a comp.
You all make me a proud (cranky) old coach. Get to bed we have another
game tomorrow. (Dave Hunter - coach)

U14 div 4 v Castle Hill United Won 1-0
A hard fought match with Holroyd getting up 1-0. Holroyd scored 1st half

that they couldn't quite capitalise on.

Sun 28th June:
U14G div 1 v Castle Hill United Draw 0-0
U16G div 2 v Kellyville Loss 6-0
Not much to be said about this game other than we did everything wrong.
Players not marking up, out of position, not attacking & winning the
loose ball, & not adjusting to KV's long throw-ins. That being said,
Rochelle played well in the backs & then a good game in goals 2nd half
to win player of the match. Larissa also tried hard & made some nice
clearance kicks & headers. Big effort needed at training & more
focus during the games.

AAL div 4 v Pendle Hill Black Won 5-1
Pendle Hill Blk upped the pressure and made us work hard for every goal in this rematch. They had a couple of players at front who were quite dangerous when they got to the ball. With a short field it put a lot of pressure on our backs and midfield who took up the challenge and ran their butts off. Vanessa was rewarded a few times with goals after some great chasing and footwork. Kristens corners were impressive. At one point she took a corner, which Vanessa trapped and passed back to Kristin who then curled a marvellous shot high towards the goals. The pendo goalie got her hands to it but fumbled it and it just dropped behind the line and bounced back out again. Just to make sure Lisa kicked it back in but it was clearly Kristens goal. When we were 2 nil up they managed to make the most of a good through ball and got around our defenders to score a goal. Mel had a few good chances but couldn't convert. Don't worry Mel , you will eventually be rewarded with a goal for all you hardwork on the field. We could see the danger from their forwards and we enlisted Nicole P to help out Tammy, Nicole K and Lauren in the backline as well. Between the four of them and our midfield, Pendo was not allowed to score another goal. Before the first half finished a sweet toepunt from distance from Amy gave us the third goal (Her first I believe after all her stints in goals.)
We still were not out of danger as Pendo kept the pressure up in the second half and the backs had their work cut out for them. A high goal by Pendo perfectly aimed to go just under the bar would have changed the face of the game but Danni made sure of it with a huge leap and caught the ball cleanly. Danni has been a key factor in many of our close matches where her saves have made the diference. After that, some great teamwork gave us another two goals. Congrtulations to Vanessa for her hat trick. Keep up the good work girls. Thanks to Todd for standing in for Dennis and organising the gameplan, positioning and subbing so well.

Round 9 match results

Sat 13th June:
U6 Green v Wenty Waratah U6 H Won 14-0
The Greens played an excellent game today: tackling hard and without
hesitation which is fantastic to see. Lemour and Sam stayed to help
their teammates out and were both rewarded with a hat-trick each in the
first half, whilst Andre scored 5 goals throughout his time on the
field. Ben has improved a lot, scoring 3 goals himself, but even more
impressively for this week, passing the ball to his teammates 8 times!
Costa worked hard, chasing the ball down and going in for the tackle
numerous times! His left foot is proving invaluable in setting up and
helping the 6's score. Overall, the Greens worked hard as a team and
deserved each and every goal we scored this morning. Good work guys!
6's Man of the Match goes to Ben, who really worked hard at and
concentrated on his passing today. It was very pleasing to see and Tammy
and I are both proud of him.

U6 Black v Wenty Waratah U6 G Won 7-1
A great game from all the Blacks today and scores which denonstrate how
far we've come as a team! Costa had some amazing passes in this game
which was pleasing to see because as we learnt today, sometimes passing
is more important than goal scoring! His great passing led to two very
impressive goals by Jamie and Fayez. Sam played magnificently, trying
hard to use both feet in his tackles and passes and was rewarded with
three goals of his own. Lemour had some great foresight today which saw
him running down the field and helping out his teammates on numerous
occasions. Rosilenn had two great big kicks which helped the blacks get
down the field quickly. Overall, a great game from the blacks today-
their coach was very proud of them!

U7 v Guildford County U7 B
U8 Purple v Granville Waratah Won 4-0
U9 div 3 v Castle Hill United Loss 1-0
U12 div 3 v Wenty Waratah Won 6-1
U13 div 4 v Wenty Waratah Loss 3-2
Last time we played Wenty the score was 2-7 down. This time we were unlucky not to end with a draw or even a win. We had the best of the attack in the first half and scored twice in the first 15 minutes in our best opening passage of the season. For the first goal everyone was so solid in their positional play as the ball came from a defensive move, that scoring seemed inevitable. The passing from our backs through midfielders to our line of forwards was fast and accurate and so well executed that in the end we had several scoring options but it ended with Carlos firing one into the net low and past the keeper’s right hand. Ryan finished another of our strong team moves to put us 2-0 up. Wenty scored a somewhat fluky goal 8 minutes from half time.

Attack has always been the strength of our team. Sometimes we press forward to with such intensity that we can find ourselves vulnerable at the back. Without the amazing efforts of our star sweeper Scott we would have more scored against us. Running perhaps twice the distance of any other player on the field during the game Scott was our man of the match.

As in our last game the commitment by all the players is very pleasing. Novvie had another good game as did Fadi. There seems to be a combination forming between Tyler and Thomas with some very slick combination moves around the Wenty defenders. Andrew O is looking the play maker with his control and accurate passing and in the last 20 minutes Andrew B’s defensive work lifted appreciably and helped keep Wenty from getting any structure to their attack. Another busy day at the office for Alex who showed it all with good anticipation and a couple of lunging saves. Matty had a solid game as did Nathan who created a couple of scoring chances by reading the play well and finding good position.

For Wenty their second half keeper had an exceptional game pulling off some very strong saves to keep us scoreless and their centre forward showed some very classy skills in to cut through and boot 2 goals.

U14 div 4 v Castle Hill RSL Won 3-2
A win is a win but this was not one of the boys best games. Scrappy
play, loose marking & then pushing up and not getting back to defend.
Consequently our 3-0 lead was soon whittled away when CHRSL had us
outnumbered in front of our goal on several occasions and managed to
convert 2 of them. 1st half we played reasonably okay and Ryan opened
our scoring with a nicely struck ball. Passing was good but trapping &
calling virtually non-existent. 1-0 at the break. 2 quick 2nd half
goals to Cameron, firstly with a penalty then a neat left foot finish at
the back post after a corner. Then the boys took their foot off the
pedal and obviously thought the game was won, but it ain't over till the
final whistle as they say and CHRSL hurt us on the counter attack.
Another good game from Bradley, and George probably with his best game
so far this season. Chris F played well in goals with well-timed runs
off his line to gather or kick clear.

U18 div 1 v Winston Hills Black Loss 5-0
O45 div 1 v Pendle Hill Loss 5-0
O35 div 6 v Pendle Hill Won 2-0
With only the bare 11 (including help from 0/45 player Pierre ) to kick off, the guys initially struggled to capitalise on any chances. Brad did a lot of good work in defending and his goal kicks were great. About 30 mins in, the voodoo was finally broken after a cross from Ray was headed in by Nashie (now in the running for the Melon award). Bill turned up at half time and his tackling in the midfield helped create more chances for the team. Andrew, Brad, Bill and Ace all had good chances with shots either hitting the post or just going wide. Ace was denied what seemed to be a clear goal and was justifiably a bit upset. A great pass from Clive was well placed by Brad to give them the second goal. A great save by Musky late in the second half helped keep the other team scoreless. (Report from Lisa)

Senior 3 v Wenty Waratah Won 3-0
Senior 4 v PCYC Parramatta Draw 1-1

Sun 14th June:
U14G v Pendle Hill Loss 1-0
U16G div 2 v Lidcombe Waratah Loss 4-3
A terrific start when Sarah P slotted home for us 2 minutes into the game. Then we allowed LW too much time on the ball to get off good passes and they released through balls for their forwards and we went to the break 2-1 down. The worst possible start to the 2nd half conceding an early goal. We had it all to do now and to their credit the girls put in the effort and were rewarded with 2 goals within minutes of each other, both the results of good lead up work from the backs and midfielders, putting the ball through for Sherri who unselfishly laid the ball off for her support both times. Firstly Sarah P was in support and tucked away a neat shot and then Emily with good attacking support from left mid finished with a delightful strike to level the game at 3-3. We endured a lot of late play in front of our goal eventually conceding a late goal. All game we had struggled to clear the ball out of the defensive third of our field and that is what hurt us in the end. Girls - we must have quick clearances away from our goal. Terrific defensive tackling often as the last player in front of goal and a solid header off the goal line earned Larissa the player of the match.

AAL div 4 v Lidcombe Waratah Won 2-0
A frustrating first half with our girls having plenty of possession and shots on goal, but the LW keeper was in excellent form. The tension at the half-time break was at a knife edge as our girls clearly expected and deserved to be up by a goal or 2. Calming words from coach took them back out for the 2nd half with the will to continue their good work knowing it would eventually pay off. Early 2nd half a rare LW raid towards our goal was neatly collected by Danni jumping to grab hold of a shot that would have just snuck under the bar. The best chance of the game came when Lisa brought down a goal kick with the iron girdle and dropped the ball to her feet, then chipped it through for Niccy whose shot at goal alas flew just over the bar. Soon after the drought was finally broken when we were awarded a penalty and Nessa neatly tucked it away. Quickly this was followed by a second goal when Kris took a clever short corner kick to Claire, who lined the ball up for her magical left foot, and curled a pearler of a shot into the back top corner - no goal keeper could have stopped it. Great game from Niccy whose speed up front caused havoc, Mel's passing was on song, Claires clearances were spectacular, and Sherrie ran well up front. Crystals traps and passes were a highlight, Di was solid in defence, and Amy exuberant in the midfield, but both Amy and Nessa need to lift their head and offload the ball earlier. A very pleasant game to watch even in the damp conditions.

Round 7 match results

Sat 30th May
U6 Green v Wenty Waratah U6/B Won 4-1
The guys played a great game and we could all tell that they have been
listening in training. Both Samuel and Costa scored twice and
Jonah was excellent in his defence saving a lot of goals.
Rosilenn as usual not scared of the boys and using her big kicks.

U6 Black v Wenty Waratah U6/F Loss 9-0
A big thanks to Jonah and Samuel for playing a second game and helping
out even though tired they both played a great game. Ben with his great
tackling skills stealing the ball afew times and Lemour using his
passing skills to get around the field.

U7 v Wenty Waratah U7/B Loss 5-2
2 goals to Kyle Schembri. Coaches trophy to Kyle Schembri, also
special note must be made to Caliyah who showed a major
improvement in her playing skills.

U8 Purple v Rouse Hill Rams Won 4-0
U9 div 3 v St Michael's Baulkham Hills Loss 4-0
U12 div 3 v Dundas Washed out
U13 div 4 v Auburn District Won 4-2
The whole team should be very proud of themselves. The Coach, Manager
and supporters certainly are. They demonstrated the commitment and
teamwork that has taken them to 3 grand finals in previous seasons.
The game started untidily with both teams taking a little while to
settle into the match. We scored a minute from half time with clever,
long throw in from Matty to Andrew A's feet. With one touch Andrew, put
the ball through to Carlos, on the left wing, who struck the ball too
solidly for the keeper to get near.
The intensity of the match picked up significantly after the break with
a real contest for getting to ball first. Auburn scored twice this half
but we slotted a further 3 home to win 4-2.
There were many highlights today. Here are just a few:
Ryan's lofted cross from the right wing was perfectly weighted to the
far post where Carlos was positioned to head the ball strongly into the
net behind their bewildered keeper. Where is the replay when you need
it? Tyler scored a miraculous goal from 25 metres out that cleared the
leaping keeper's finger with a high looping shot just sneaking in under
the cross bar.
Thomas, who had worked like a Trojan all day, was rewarded after a
number of promising moves with our final goal only few minutes before
the end after working through a crowd of Auburn players.
Mentions must be made of the team-play shown by Andrew Orlando whose
skill assisted in more than one of the goals. Fadi had a great game
being the standout player of the first half with many runs and some
surgically accurate passing. Alex had his usual strong game with two
diving, fingertip saves and one drop kick that cleared both teams and
went all the way to the other keeper. You might want to tone it down a
bit Al.
In the second half Aiden was quite scary in his commitment to attacking
the ball. His efforts resulted in us gaining more possession, giving us
the chances to score.
They really looked like they knew what they were doing. Well coached
Shaun.
This week's saying: ''You're born.'' ''You die. ''In between you play Soccer.''

U14 div 4 v Baulkham Hills Won 6-1
With 11 players and 3rd v 4th this promised to be a tough match. Our
boys rose to the challenge and put in a work-rate that had to be seen to
be believed. We outplayed BH in every department, winning almost every
loose ball, and our passing and calling was fantastic. Numerous raids
on their goal without result was frustrating our boys but they continued
to work hard and eventually the goals came. Mark with 2 long range
strikes to score our 1st and 3rd with Ryan slotting home a nice finish
for our 2nd. BH had a late run to grab a goal just before the break.
2nd half Elcin with an early goal before he got another and then Chris M
scored. Bradley played an outstanding game in the backs. Overall a
great result from a first rate effort.

U18 div 1 v Guildford County Loss 10-0
O45 div 1 v Baulkham Hills Loss 3-1
O35 div 6 v Ermington United Won 2-1
Senior div 3 v Parramatta City Won 2-1
Senior div 4 v Greystanes Won 2-0

Sun 31st May
U14G div 1 v Beaumont Hills Loss 3-0
U16G div 2 v Castle Hill RSL Loss 3-2
First half we gave CHRSL too much space and marking was too loose. As a
result we were down 2-0 at the break. 2nd half a much better effort
with us dominating the midfield. Early 2nd half a nice run from Sheri
was turned away by their defence but the ball was kept under control and
brought back to our midfield and Renea with a lovely strike from outside
the 18-yard line got our 1st goal. Soon after we levelled the scores
through strong work from the midfield. The ball going out wide to the
right and crossed in, deflecting off a defender and going in for an
own-goal. Scores remained locked for most of the half until a couple of
late runs from CHRSL wore down our defence and alas they scored the
winer with just a couple of minutes left. A better 2nd half with good
strong play in the midfield but not enough shots on goal. Strong work
and good positioning in goals saw Megan stop many attempts on our goal
earning her the player of the match award. Nice play from Rochelle and
Cassie at the back, Renea had a great game in the midfield, and Adriana,
Natasha and Sarah R all contributed well in the mids. Nice to welcome
Larissa back into the team after being injured in a pre-season trial
game.

AAL div 4 v Winston Hills Loss 4-0
AAL div 2 v Castle Hill United Loss 6-0

Spirit of cooperation

The spirit of cooperation in our club is fantastic. Even before the start of the season, players and teams were helping each other out in trial matches and this help has not stopped there.

Players from the U13's have helped out the U14's a few times when the U14's were short. Some of our girls also helped out the U14 boys team in one trial match, straight after their own game. The AAL4 and U16 girls helped out the AAL1 (now AAL2) ladies when they were short. Today two of the AAL4 ladies finished a very tough game and then raced from Granville to Toongabbie to help out the AAL2 ladies who were extremely short of players.

It has been wonderful to see this display of sporting spirit from all of our players. And the resulting appreciative response from the teams they helped out, has created a great atmosphere of camaraderie across all the teams.

Round 5 match results

Sat 16th May
U6 Green v Guildford County U6 A Won 8-3
A fantastic game from our Greens today which is obviously shown by our result! Sam played well, securing three impressive goals alongside Ben, who also scored a hat-trick in the first half (and not a handball in sight)! Andre played well once he started concentrating which was great to see, and Lemour's passing today made both his coaches particularly proud! Player of the Week goes to Jamie who, on top of taking a great free kick and defending well with Sam, managed to kick a goal of his own! Great work today Greens!

U6 Black v Guildford County U6 C Draw 3-3
The Blacks played really well today with some amazing defending from Jonah, who saved numerous goals being scored with his great tackling skills. Fayez had a few good runs, but needs to concentrate a little bit more on his marking and tackling. Rosilenn had four great tackles, & was trying hard which was great to see, whilst Costa's speed and determination saw him put away our three goals with his amazing left foot. The blacks are running for the ball and passing to one another which is amazing to watch. Congratulations guys!

Senior 4 - bye

Sun 17th May
U14G div 1 - Round 5 game deferred due to State Cup match
U16G div 2 v Wenty Waratah Won 7-2
The girls were never really stretched in this game and just coasted. After we were up 3-0 Wenty scored 2 quick goals to bring it back to 3-2 and the girls got a bit of a shock. 2nd half we picked it up and put away 3 unanswered goals, and with a much better defensive effort in the mids and backs Wenty rarely got near our goal. Wenty's 2nd half keeper came off her line well and stopped us putting away even more. Nice finishing from our forwards and mids saw goals from Sheri (3) (2nd hat-trick for the season), Sarah P (2), Emily and Natasha. Spreading out was good but we need to make passes to our open players. Great game from Natasha and Kacey in the midfield, and Adriana built on her good game last week with another top performance. Shayley, DJ, Chantelle and Cassie all played well in the backs. Sarah R followed up on her great game last week to be this weeks Player of the Match with a gutsy performance in 3 different positions during the game, tackling and winning the ball every time, and perfect passes and through balls.

All Age Ladies div 4 v Guildford County Loss 3-0
A tough game. Our play was scrappy in parts and sometimes hanging back from the tackle. When we did go in for the tackle most often we came away with the ball. Robyn's timing with her tackles were really good. Some good buildup to give the forwards their best opportunities for a shot. Sherrie particularly held the ball up well before delivering some spot on passes to Nicole, Amy or Vanessa. We did well not to respond to the behaviour of the other team and just got out there and played the game as it should be.

All Age Ladies div 2 v Castle Hill RSL Loss 5-0
The AAL2 have had a hard start to the season. A lack of players, the wrong division and just when things were looking up with a regrade and a few new players, a number of injuries and illnesses meant they were down to 7 on the field to begin today's game. Playing with 7 is not for the faint hearted and these girls did not falter in their effort. They went out there and played with great spirit and just never stopped. Just after halfway through the first half two of the AAL4 players turned up to give them a hand (Good on you Nicole and Amy). This seemed to give them all a boost and they managed to keep the opposition to only 1 goal scored from that time onward. Jade deserves credit for a great stint in goals and a promising start from new recruit Jackie. (report from Lisa)

State Cup: U14G div 1 v Tennyson Tigers Loss
The State Cup is a knockout comp so this loss means our girls are out of the comp.

Round 4 match results

Sat 9th May
U6 Green v Merrylands SFC U6/A Loss 6-1
A big effort by all our boys this week, with lots of tackling undertaken by Sam and Andre. Despite his sore leg, Sam played a great game, really taking on board the tackling theme of last weeks training. Andre ran hard and put in lots of effort. Ben and Lemour also had a good game with both boys practising their dribbling or "little kicks" down the field. Jamie also got a few good touches of the ball while he was on which was great to see. Rosilenn's improving tackles were definitely missed this week, but even soccer has to come 2nd to your own birthday party! Overall, the Greens are really uniting as Rangers and slowly putting together the soccer skills they're learning at training, which is great to see. Good effort guys!

U6 Black v Merrylands SFC U6/D Won 3-0
A great game to watch as the boys really used this game to concentrate on their passing and tackling. Costa had a fantastic game, scoring twice and making a few break throughs down the wing. Our other goal scorer, Fayez, proved listening really pays off - and was rewarded for his great listening with a nice goal in the 2nd half. Ben played a great second game but needs to remember we can't use our hands in soccer, and Lemour and Andre, who stuck around to support their team mates, also had great runs. Player of the week goes to Jonah, who, on top of playing hard for the Blacks by passing to his team mates and having some great kick-ins, really listened to his coaches and concentrated throughout the whole game. Congratulations guys!

U7 v Merrylands SFC U7/D Loss 2-1

Goal scored by Amber Robertson. Coach’s Trophy went to William Bremner for most improved. Major improvement by all players. Welcome to our new player Caliyah.

U8 Purple v Castle Hill RSL Won 8-0
U9 div 3 v Dundas Loss 7-0
U12 div 3 v North Rocks Draw 1-1
A very even game North Rocks scored first half and our boys equalised in the last minute. The boys are getting fitter. Just the little things like first touch letting us down. Keep trying hard and it will all come together. (David - coach)

U13 div 4 v Granville Kewpies Draw 3-3
A very tough game against an aggressive team. We scored first through a head from Tyler after a terrific cross. Some of the game was scrappy with both teams hassling for the ball in the middle of the field but when we got to passing freely it was pretty to watch. The game see-sawed with us scoring the equaliser with 6 minutes to go. We had several quality build ups to earn shots on goal and Ryan who was good in both defense and attack scored twice and is our man of the match. It was our most complete effort so far this year with all players contributing. Please note: although he is injured Mitchell attends all games and has taken on a team support role until he can take the field again - thanks for your team spirit Mitchell.

U14 div 4 v St Michaels Won 2-0
U18 div 1 v Winston Hills White Loss 5-1
O45 div 1 v Pendle Hill Loss 8-1
O35 div 6 v Rouse Hill Rams Won 3-2
The drought is finally over. Beer tastes heaps better after a win. First win for 18 months, we estimate 27 games. Good hard game between 2 good sides looking to win. Rouse Hill scored 2 goals in first 10 mins. Mr Alib scored our first and then a pen made it 2-2 at half time. Second half belonged to Rouse Hill but you have to score goals with all those shots and our keeper was very good also. 3rd goal from a corner 10 from time. Held on for good enjoyable win. Few injuries to both sides hopefully none to serious. Gee this beer tastes good. (Match report courtesy of SlowFox)

Senior 3 v Castle Hill RSL Won 3-2
Senior 4 v North Rocks Won 7-2

Sun 10th May
U14G div 1 v Pendle Hill Draw 1-1
U16G div 2 v Kellyville Loss 2-1
A very even game with Kellyville striking first and then we equalised a little later to go to the break at 1-1. Kellyville played the long ball game to their fast striker and that’s what got them their first goal. We dropped back our sweeper and this nullified that aspect of their game. Megan came off her line several times very well-timed. Our goal was the result of a couple of nice passes from Sarah R and Kacey to Sheri on the right who struck it neatly inside the far post. Kellyville went ahead early 2nd half from a free-kick just outside the box which cleared our wall and Megan got across to it alright but could not stop it going in. Our controlled play in midfield was much better than Kellyville and we had several good build-ups towards goal but did not take the shot when we had the chance. We had a couple of great chances to equalise late in the game but one shot went wide and the penalty was hit straight at the keeper. Girls – we need to take more shots when we are in and around their keepers area. Otherwise I’m really pleased with the overall effort today. Special mention to Cassie with top work in defence, and Adriana and Sarah R both played their best games so far. Emily kept the pressure on their defence up front. Player of the Match was Kacey whose constant tackling, winning the ball & great passing from the midfield was the highlight of the game.

AAL div 4 v Kellyville Draw 1-1
Ladies, it is great to see that we are going out there to play each team as we find them on the day and not worrying about past results from the opposition. With 3 players away, two of them being our main goal keeper and substitute goal keeper and one a defender, we had to go out there hard in attack and in defense and make sure of every opportunity. And we did. The spectators said it was a great game to watch, and credit is due to each and every player who never gave up. Welcome back Sherrie - we missed you. Special mention to Mel who tackled and won nearly every ball, creating havoc for the opposition and plenty of opportunities for us in attack.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!

U9 div 3 v St Johns Loss 2-0
U12 div 3 v Castle Hill RSL Won 4-1
U13 div 4 v Pendle Hill Loss 2-1
A disappointing result this week with a 1-2 loss in a fast and entertaining game. First half we had the best of possession and attack with Ryan Safour scoring first after consistent pressure. We made several other opportunities that we failed to finish through either good recovery defence by Pendle Hill or hesitation on our part. Pendle Hill equalised with a well put together attack down the left side, a well placed cross and a low shot beneath the keepers outstretched hand. Second half continued apace testing the fitness of both teams. After a number of end to end plays which kept both keepers busy Pendle Hill score via an unmarked forward. Scott Manning, busy as always, was the player of the match with a quality sweepers effort. All players put in meritable efforts. Well done lads. (Paul - Manager)

U14 div 4 at North Rocks Won 9-1
Cameron with our opening goal when he volleyed in his shot off a flicked on corner. Goals also to Chris M, James, Ryan, Mark and Elcin. An easy game really 11 against 10 but they opened us up at the back too often. Even when physically tired stay mentally focussed and keep marking your player. Daniel did well at centre back, and the twins ran hard all game. Keep up the good passing as that is what will win us the big games.

U18 div 1 v St Josephs Loss 5-3
O45 div 1 v Kellyville Loss 2-1
O35 div 6 v Parramatta City Draw 1-1
Nice opening goal from the Marksman before he went off with his hammy. The Blunderbuss with a chance early 2nd half off his favoured left foot but he put it over. Chop on the sidelines for another week preferring to make sure the drinks stayed cold. 2nd half we were not as sharp in the mids and consequently came under a lot of fire, eventually conceding late in the game. Another week without a win.

Senior 3 v St Josephs Loss 2-0
Senior 4 v Wenty Waratah Won 3-0
U14G div 1 v Winston Hills Loss 3-0
U16G div 2 v Winston Hills Won 4-1
A really terrific game – great passing and good defensive marking. One problem was bunching – spreading out more opens up bigger spaces for us to utilise. Nicely worked play saw Sheri with a soft shot towards goal and the ball a couple of metres off the line and wide of their keeper which Sarah P pounced on, belting it into the back of the net to score her first goal for us. The 2nd goal was a gem and a great team goal – a strong tackle from Chantelle at the back won the ball, playing it forward to Sarah R at left mid, who played it through for Emily. Em ran it to the goal line to the left of the goal against a strong defender, and placed a super pass across goal for Sheri to score unmarked in front of goal. A late chance from Sarah P cannoned off the post. 2-0 up at the half. WH got 1 back but we came back strong with 2 more nice goals. Terrific through ball from Kacey to Emily with a strong finish, and some nice passing in front of their goal which Sheri finished. Great play from Rochelle at centre back, great passing and through balls from Kacey, good tackling and passing from Chantelle, and good tackling and passing from Sarah R. Sarah P playing as striker 1st half and as holding defense 2nd half was just superb all game earning her the Player of the Match award.

AAL div 4 v Wenty Waratah Won 3-0
Playing was very bunched, but part of that may have been playing on the North Rocks mini sized field as well as the defensive focus by the other team. As a result, we had so many chances but the ball kept hitting the many feet in the way. The 3 goals we did score were good ones. Vanessa found the sweet spot on her head from a superb corner from Claire to slot the first goal in. Tammy took a shot from distance and cracked it in. The third goal saw Vanessa easily take the ball in and slot the goal. Mel was very unlucky not to score as she constantly hunted down the ball and just didn't give up. As did Nicole who was a powerhouse of energy. Robyn was determined in the midfield and usually won the ball from every tackle she was in. Lisa's nose took a beating and then The Phantom took her out later on but she went back on hoping to keep on her feet for a change. Kris was worried about her corners but then went on to kick a beautiful corner but we just couldn't put it in for her. On the few breakthroughs that Wenty had, Nicole or Di or Lauren easily chased them down. Lauren often seemed to do the impossible with an attacker and the ball very close to the sideline she would still manage to get the ball past the Wenty player and bring it back up for us. Danni only had to get to the ball a few times but judged her runs really well and contributed with well-paced and well delivered goal kicks. Crystal's throw-in's were great as usual and she kept the ball from going out providing the forwards with plenty of opportunities. We could have got more but were happy with a 3-0 win.

U7 v Merrylands SFC U7/D Loss 6-3
2 goals to Kyle Schembri and 1 goal to Amber Robertson

U8 Purple v Castle Hill United Loss 1-0

U9 div 3 v Baulkham Hills Draw 1-1

U12 div 3 v Wenty Waratah Loss 5-1

U13 div 4 v Wenty Waratah Loss 7-2
Difficult in windy conditions the game was tight in the first half. Wenty had the wind at their backs and scored twice from many attempts. We scored late in the first half with a well structured attack finished by Tyler. Second half saw 6 goals, another well put together build up finished by Nathan. Our goals were constantly under attack swallowing the ball 5 more times. Despite the score it was universally agreed that keeper Alex was man of the match. His commitment, determination and reflexes kept the deficit from reaching the high teens. Our defensive structure will be a priority at next training. (Paul – Manager)

U14 div 4 v Castle Hill United Loss 3-2

U18 div 1 v Castle Hill United Loss 3-0

O45 div 1 v Baulkham Hills Won 3-0

O35 div 6 v Lidcombe Waratah Draw 2-2
A bit of a see-sawing match with Holroyd going ahead 1-0 midway through the first half and keeping that lead at half time. A good goal scored by Ace for the Rangers. Lidcombe came back strongly then and put in a couple including one from a free kick about 15 yards outside the penalty box courtesy of a free kick. It sailed over our keeper's arms who was temporarily blinded by the sun. Thankfully we got one back to level the score and had a last gasp effort just minutes before time when Ace pulled out his sand wedge and somehow chipped it over the bar from inside the six yard box. But he could be forgiven considering he scored both our goals. A good match played in good spirits! (Match report courtesy of Mr Ali B)

Senior 3 v Wenty Waratah Loss 2-1

Senior 4 v Baulkham Hills Loss 2-0

U14 Girls div 1 v Beaumont Hills Loss 1-0

U16 Girls div 2 v Lidcombe Waratah Loss 2-1
An ordinary first half, our girls with few exceptions sat back and did not tackle or challenge for the ball. Lidcombe with a lucky early goal when they chipped it into the wind, Megan was slightly off her line and the ball went over her and under the bar. Their 2nd goal was more from our poor marking - girls, when we leave players with too much space or unmarked in front of goal then they score against us. Adriana with a chance late in the half when she was given the ball around the 18-yard line but the shot was rushed - make the first touch to set the ball up for your 2nd shot to be a good shot on goal. Second half the girls came out fired up and we were probably the better team. We got back an early goal through some nice passing in the midfield which Sheri finished nicely. We created a few more half chances but could not convert anything. The pleasing thing was how much better our tackling and defensive effort was in the 2nd half, not letting Lidcombe control the ball at all. Give the passes a little earlier and don't wait until they shut down your passing options. Good play in midfield from Natasha and Kacey, and some nice runs from Sarah P. DJ earned player of the match with her constant running and tackling in the backs, even pushing up occasionally to support the mids and strikers.

All Age Ladies div 4 v Pendle Hill Black Won 7-3
An awesome game from the ladies. With their confidence a bit battered from the previous weeks loss and with only 10 players they played to win from the kickoff. The first goal in 15 seconds was a great start with Vanessa and Nicole putting together some spot on passes enabling Lisa to neatly slot in the goal. Good passing was the key to scoring further goals. The midfielders and defenders worked extra hard to keep the ball forward. A free kick late in the first half saw Claire crack the ball from distance, hit the cross bar and bounce in just behind the line to cement our score. As usual, Crystal's long distance throw-ins kept the pressure on Pendle Hill. With 10 players we got a bit tired in the second half and Pendle Hill scored 3 goals but with 15 mins to go Rangers scored another goal to make it 7 and kept the opposition to 3 goals. Keep up the good work ladies.

Round 1 match results

U6/A v Wenty Waratah U6/C Won by forfeit

U6/B v Merrylands SFC U6/F Draw 4-4

U7 v Wenty Waratah U7/D Loss 9-2
2 goals scored by Kyle Schembri

U8 Purple v Ermington United Won 7-0

U9 div 3 v Wenty Waratah Loss 3-0
The boys tried hard - need a little more training together.

U12 div 3 v Castle Hill United Draw 3-3

U13 div 4 v Merrylands SFC Loss 3-1
The team played very well in the first half displaying good skills with controlled passing and organised build up and were rewarded with a 1-0 score line at half time. Merrylands fired up and scored 3 unanswered goals in the second half despite our boys making many more opportunities, 2 rattling the crossbar and one other off the post and a number well handled by their keeper. While our attack was strong our defensive structure let us down. Nathan finished off our well constructed attack to score and Novneal was todays stand out player. Strong positional play and controlled defense leaving a number of the opposition booting clear air. Overall the team showed the skill to augur a strong season. (Paul - Manager)

U14 div 4 v Pendle Hill Won 9-1
A goal in the first minute to new player Elcin got our season off to the best possible start. Strong tackling, passing, talking, and calling in the first half saw more goals including Chris M's first ever goal, a second for Elcin, and 2 screamers from Mark struck from well outside the box. 6-0 up at the break. Second half our structure fell apart a little as the boys got a bit too greedy to score, and lost their passing game and stopped talking. End result was still a big win. Great start boys. (John - Manager)

U18 div 1 v Toongabbie Loss 3-2

O45 div 1 v Winston Hills Loss 5-1

O35 div 6 v Dundas Loss 1-0
Ordinary start to the season. Struggling to find team cohesion with several new players. Not enough decent shots on target. Dundies with many efforts on goal and one lucky one sneaks inside the post. But for us it was a case of if you don't shoot you can't score. Chop almost bagged us a late equalizer with a neat deflection just tipped wide by Dundies keeper. A couple of yellows and Chops 40-20s were noted. Not a great game for our spectators including special guest Capt G.

Senior 3 v Merrylands SFC Draw 1-1

Senior 4 v Granville Waratah Won 8-0

U14 Girls div 1 - bye

U16 Girls div 2 v Castle Hill United Won 3-0
What a terrific start to our season. Marking was good for the most part but deteriorated in the 2nd half, particularly in the midfield, we need to work harder on this for the whole game. Passing started off poorly with too much 'blind' kicking, but improved as the 1st half progressed and the girls grew in confidence. This controlled passing eventually wore down the CHU defence and a nice through ball from Shayley allowed Sheri to tuck away a well placed shot to open our account. Sheri also got our 2nd goal when she anticipated from a CHU goalkick, stole the ball from their defender and neatly sidestepped to again tuck the ball low into the corner. Up 2-0 at the half. Our 3rd goal was just superb - after stopping a CHU corner our defence flicked the ball up to Kacey in midfield, who passed to Renae to her left, who played a perfect through ball for Sheri who again put it low and wide to bag her hat-trick - 4 passes in all from inside our own 18 yard line to scoring! Some defensive lapses saw CHU threaten our goal several times late in the game - we went soft on tackling and did not clear the ball away from goal strongly enough - something else for us to work on. A penalty late in the game saw Megan given the opportunity to score her first ever goal but alas she put it over the bar. Great game from Chantelle in defence, DJ who ran hard all game, and Cassie was brilliant at the back. Everyone passed well but Kacey and Renae did particularly well. Emily ran well up front and could have also scored a few but needs to finish stronger and place her shots better - keep trying and the goals will come. Sheri earned Player of the Match with her hat-trick but it was a great team effort that won us this game.

All Age Ladies div 4 v North Rocks Loss 7-2
Off to a good start with HR scoring first. NR capitalised on our errors and scored off almost every mistake we made. Our 2nd goal was neatly done with a nice through ball on the right which Lisa ran onto and flicked a perfect pass across to Niccy P running towards goal and tucked the shot away. But by this stage the game was gone. NR are not a better team by that margin but they did take advantage of our errors. Need to tighten up in midfield and defence and not concede so many goals to be competitive in this division.

All Age Ladies div 1 v Baulkham Hills Loss 7-0
A good effort against better opposition than we are used to. Thanks to Cassie from U16G's for filling in. Keep working hard. We will get better.

Rangers players flag bearers at Matildas game

Eleven Holroyd Rangers players were flag bearers at the Matilda v Italy match on Saturday 31st January at Parramatta Stadium.

The game, a 2 all draw was very exciting with an seemingly impossible shot from Lisa De Vanna off her left foot curling into the top of the goals.

Fittingly, Cheryl Salisbury, in her last game added to the score with a penalty shot. With nearly 3000 people at the stadium the atmosphere was fantastic and no one minded the heat. After the game the players were generous with their time in signing balls, posters and shirts for the kids.
