U6 Holroyd Black v Holroyd Green
The other 2 clubs called their U6 games off due to the wet weather but
at HR we like our players to play as much soccer as possible. So we
scheduled our 2 teams to play each other at home and it was a terrific
game enjoyed by all. In an even game it was great to see everyone have
fun and try hard. The highlight had to be Jesse scoring 2 goals.

Nice to score some goals and get a draw after 2 losses. Our 1st half
was very slow, we were too bunched and watched the ball instead of
attacking it. Consequently we soon found ourselves a goal down. Some
nice efforts on goal from Daniela, Emily & Mel were unlucky until
Rochelle's strike from the 18 yard line was hit low & wide to make it
1-1 at half-time. 2nd half we played better and had much more of the
run of play. A counter attack from PH saw their striker run through
from near halfway (a dubious offside position but the referee didn't
call it so we must play the whistle) and placed it wide of Megan as she
came out from goal. The equalizer came from Mel wide on the left when
she neatly tucked her shot low into the far corner. Our shots later in
the game were unlucky not to go in, we just need to hit them a bit
harder or place them a little better. Good general play from everyone,
but we need to mark players tighter and challenge for the loose ball,
and stay spread out. Twice we came back from being a goal behind so it
shows we can get back into games even if we go behind. Great game from
Rebekah at centre back, our player of the match, tracking back to run
down the ball numerous times under pressure from their attack and often
turning the ball back up the field to our midfield.

Ahmad played well today with great determination. Jesse with some solid defending. Jamal ran and tackled well. Maddison improves each week but needs to attack the ball more. Fayez always has a smile on his face and is improving. Waseem and Patrick read the game well and both can defend as well as score goals. Kiara has only played a few games but is getting better with every game. A great effort from all players.

Too good for us in every area but we did score the best goal of the 8. We also hit the bar twice and the keeper made a good save from the Slow Fox in the 2nd half. A couple of tempers flared but overall a good hard game. [Courtesy of Slow Fox]

Our 8 players battled bravely against WH 11 + 4 subs. Some terrific play 1st half saw Emily with a few breaks towards goal and Lauren also getting up into the penalty box. Katelyn with some good passing in midfield and Natalia and Heather with good anticipation and clearance kicks from the backs. Natasha with a terrific snap shot on goal that was only thwarted by a sharp reflex grab from their keeper - excellent stuff, we need more shots 0n goal like this. Alas with only 8 the girls quickly tired. The 2nd half we spent long periods defending in our half, making the occasional run forward. The score could have been worse except for solid defending at centre back from Rochelle, a worthy player of the match.

With players away from all teams some of the kids are playing in both games. Great game from Ahmad, Amber, Jamal, Jesse, Maddison, Patrick and our new player Kiara. Kiara was upset she didn’t score a goal but she has a strong kick and if she keeps trying she is sure to get one soon. Tackling and timing is getting better, but we all need to concentrate on the game. We have to score goals for us and stop the other team from scoring goals. Keep up the good efforts.

Hard and enjoyable game with BH a little slow to start and we had a few chances but unable to take advantage. 1-0 at half time. 2nd half BH had more control, 2nd goal was a penalty and the last 3 came in the last 10 minutes. Excellent performance from the Rangers and the result probably flattered BH a bit - I thought 3-0 was a fair result but that’s the way it is when the spoon is in your hand. [Courtesy of Slow Fox]

If we don’t finish off our goals and if we don’t mark our players in defence this result is what happens. Too many defensive errors saw us concede soft goals. Lots of scoring chances all game long, but we did not take the chances when we had them. How different the game would have been if we’d put away 2 goals in the 1st half – we certainly had 2 great chances to do so. 2nd half again we had at least 4 good chances. If we get the ball into the 18 yard box take the first good shot at goal you can and strike it well - often you can catch the goalie off guard or get a deflection. I say it every week – to score goals we have to take shots. We created many chances but really only had 2-3 shots on goal – that’s not enough. 2nd half we tired with 10 players but they only had 11. Player of the match was Lauren for a great game at left back. Think about it – mark your players in defence, and take your shots in attack. We have a great team who can achieve great things but we have to do the basics right.

A good game played in good spirits. The past 2 games we've scored plenty of goals but need to strengthen our defence if we're going to be competitive. Fox was hoping to get on the score sheet with a nice strike from outside the box that went just wide - we won't talk about the one off the melon . . . [Courtesy of MrAliB]

AliB you scored with no good luck charm. It was good to see our midfield & forwards getting a chance on goal for a change. I think our stand-in keeper Eddie the Big Bottomed Wombat needs to stay on the park & just use his feet. Hopefully our number 1 keeper is back on Sat & Sun. Mr Hop played his first full game for 8 weeks & looked like he was going to explode. When is he having that baby? He’s been preggers for 10 years now. [Courtesy of Slow Fox]

1st half we looked pretty good, creating lots of chances, but just could not score. Emily had a couple of breakaway runs but their sweeper kept enough pressure on that the shots went wide. Late in the half Mel had a tap in from close range but lifted it just over the bar. BH responded with a goal right on half-time. Obviously the half-time talk did very little as BH scored again soon after the break and then bundled in 3 more. Only the BH goal struck from range over Megan’s head was a shot of any quality, but we still allowed the other 4 goals to go in. Our goal was a late consolation when Mel neatly placed her shot into the corner giving their goalie no chance. Too many of our passes went to BH players instead of ours. We did not use the width of the park and ended up bunched in the middle, stifling our free-flowing play and preventing us from playing through balls to our strikers. BH got the ball in front of our goal and we sagged back and did not clear it, allowing them to score most of their goals from scrambles in front of goals. Learn from this girls – do the basics well and good things happen, mess up the basics and it’s a struggle. A good first game from our new player Heather. Rochelle put in a good performance in the midfield and later at centre back to earn the player of the match.

What a great result! Before this game CH had won all 9 games with a total of just 3 goals scored against them. We have now defeated the top ranked team, which shows we can beat anyone if we want to. Our first 15 minutes was scrappy & we could easily have conceded goals. Before the game we had no self belief that we had a chance against this team & it showed in our early play – too may passes going straight to CH players. As play went on & we kept them out our confidence grew & CH got frustrated. Late in the half our passing improved & we made some good runs into their half, eventually winning a couple of corners. Daniela struck a nice ball across the goals which their keeper tried to gather, but Natasha at the back post was on the spot applying pressure & the ball was fumbled over the line to put us up 1-0 right on half-time. An exciting 2nd half with both teams creating scoring chances. Emily & Daniela made good runs forward after some nice through balls. Megan came off her line well to block shots & put their strikers off. Great play at the back from Lauren, Natalia & Rochelle. Midfielders all tackled & passed well in the 2nd half. The coach was pretty excited after the game & you 11 girls deserve full credit for a job well done. Player of the match at central defence & with a short stint in the midfield was Danielle, with tenacious tackling & a determination to get to the ball first and take control.

A ball to the face before the game upset Amber but she struggled on bravely through the game. Maddison is tackling well and continues to improve every week. Patrick turns the ball away from danger very well and reads the play well. Jesse was impressed by the oppositions kicks in the air and is determined to learn to do the same himself. A good effort on a cold morning.

U/6 Green v PCYC White

Ahmed and Fayez continue to improve and are enjoying their soccer, but need to concentrate more. Jamal is very happy kicking towards the goal and his tackling and attacking has improved a lot. A lot of chances created in the 1st half with several good shots on goal, but we could not get anything into the back of the net. CH with a counter attack and they score. 2nd half we tired with no subs and the play was more even. Again we had several good attempts on goal after some nice lead up work. A penalty in the last minute gave us a 3-0 loss. This was far from a one-sided game as the score might suggest and we probably had more chances on goal than CH, but we failed to convert our opportunities. Be more positive when approaching the ball and don’t hesitate. Great work from all players, but Katelyn played superbly with almost all of her passes going to our players feet, earning her the player of the match award.

We barely got out of first gear in this game and should have won by a bigger margin against a team of 9 players. I’ll put it down to so many players carrying injuries, and the important thing is we got the win and the 3 points. Some good attacking play in the 1st half saw Lauren S. and Natasha score goals. In the 2nd half Lauren S. bagged another after a nice cross into the area. Megan with a shot off the post almost scored her first ever goal. Miray and Lauren S. made some good runs down the wings. Natasha played well as forward, a position she is not used to. Daniela and Danielle some good tackling and passing in midfield. Rebekah and Danielle both seemed to enjoy their stint in the midfield, with Rebekah playing some nice passes through and good overall play, earning her the player of the match award. Natalia pushed forward when the chance was there and contributed well in the front half of the field.

A great effort from the green machine today the score was 1-1 with 10 to go. A few decisions from the ref that were dodgy but there were more bad ones to Lid than us. Penalty missed and plenty by one striker and one headed off the line and we had 2 or 3 good chances also. No subs again today & another terrific gutsy effort from the girls. Our through balls were placed to perfection & Emily and Renea running up front had several good chances. Some great play from the backs played a controlled ball to our midfields feet who tucked a nice through ball wide for Emily. A super cross from Emily found Renea in front of goal who put away the shot. A free kick on the edge of the 18 yard line which Daniela put into the wall, it rebounded across to Mel who was holding her position on the left wing and Mel struck a superb finish into the top of the net – well done Mel for your 1st goal with us. A couple of nice finishes from Emily & Rochelle grabbed 2nd half goals for us. A great game from Katelyn & Daniela in the midfield, Danielle in the backs, & Emily at forward. Megan in goals was solid all game, earning her the player of the match. In a 2nd half flurry of action Megan deflected a shot on goal, then ever alert as she tried to get to her feet knocked down the 2nd attempt, & then dived onto the loose ball in front of their onrushing striker. A great effort from all players including those who carried injuries into the game – Natasha, Rochelle & Mel. The difference today was when we had a chance for a shot at goal we took the shot, and that is why we scored 6 goals.

Our team is coming together well considering being promoted from third division to second division. I think the players have realised it is a big step up and the game is a lot tougher. We have started off fairly well so far with two wins, two draws and two losses. All the games have been played in good spirit. Man of the match awards have gone to Brock, Daniel, Jesse, Chris and Jim with extra awards being given to some other players putting in an extra effort. I am so proud of everyone in this team. Each week they go out and give their all without complaint. No subs today and very windy conditions made for a difficult match - our extra fitness training is helping us though. With everyone tiring late in the game our tackles and passes were a little weak – we need to stay strong and focus for the whole game. Great work in defence from Natalia, Rebekah, Danielle and Lauren. Emily used her speed well early to get us off to a flyer. A neat left foot tap beat the keeper and just trickled over the line. More chances later from Emily, Mel, Rochelle, Daniela and Megan should have seen us score a couple more – take the shot if you have space on the edge of the 18 yard box. Katelyn played superbly in the midfield making some nice passes. A nasty incident late in the game soured things a little. Natasha came back well to contribute to our 2nd goal and Megan made a nice pass across to Daniela who fired it home strongly. Great all round game from Daniela and a good attitude after the incident earned her the Player of the Match award. I say it every week - play to the whistle and play to our game plan. Another 1 or 2 players is urgently needed for our team.

We played better than the score shows but PCYC have some very fast runners and they scored a lot of runaway goals. We attacked their goal a lot but too many of our shots just went wide. 10 and a 1/2 players today was a struggle. Lame Fox did his job standing in the middle of the park. 1st half goal was a 1-on-1 with our new keeper. 2nd half goal was a shot off the post which fell back to their strikers feet for the tap home. Good first game from the new keep. Call of the day from Capt G after CHop took the ball on his thigh - "Watch the baby!". 10 players first half and an unofficial ref from BH with some dubious calls and our girls were rattled. BH had 2 breaks and converted both. We had several good runs forward and the shots either went wide or were stopped by their backs. A half time rally and we went out 2nd half to play our game regardless of what the ref was calling. An early through ball found Lauren S. who sprinted through and finished well. Soon after some great lead up work from the backs and through the mid-field saw us win a corner. Superbly struck and placed by Daniela near 3 of our girls and it was Lauren S. who touched home our 2nd. We kept trying to get the winner but couldn't convert one despite several close attempts. Excellent game from Natasha filling in the backs for us and great work in the middle from Daniela. Emily played well up front in the 1st half and equally well in the midfield 2nd half. Megan enjoyed her run up front 2nd half while Rochelle subbed for her in goals – both played well. 2 great goals and a superb game from Lauren S. Mel with great play at left mid and some super runs down the wing earned her the Player of the Match award. Much better play from us in the 2nd half when we settled down and played our game.

Our first competition point from a see-sawing game. Nice finishes to Mark with 2 goals, and Bill who was quickly on hand to clean up after their keeper fumbled, and Greg’s effort from range which the keeper dived over (how much did he pay their keeper to let his shot go in?). Brad’s shot from outside the box curled late to just miss the post. CHop got cleaned up by the phantom at least 3 times, and nice ball control with his 3rd leg. Nashy is now top scorer with 2 deflected goals.

The break with the washed out round 4 and the shorter training session did not help us. Today we looked flat and listless with few exceptions. I don’t mind if we lose as long as we play to our best, and today was not our best. We were too bunched and did not play the ball wide enough. Any runs forward had 2 or 3 of us running through but far too close to each other. Marking the opposition was severely lacking, we hung off the ball, and we gave them too much space and time on the ball. More talk on the field. CH are a very good team and deserved to win today. They and us will be the teams to beat in this competition. We can be competitive against them if we mark better, win and control the ball, and spread the ball wider. Good effort today from Danielle, Natasha, Mel, Lauren S. and Katelyn (player of the match). It’s time for everyone to step up a notch.
